I have the Medela PISA breast pump and the manual says to clean all parts after each use (duh) and sanitize all parts once a day. Is the sanitize part necessary? I was under the impression that you sanitize bottles and breast pump parts once (before first use) but after that just cleaning with hot water and soap is fine. The theory being that as long as your faucet water is safe for drinking, it's safe to clean baby bottle parts, etc. Public water supply has significantly improved over the last 50 years and sanitization is only necessary if you use well water.
Has anyone not sanitized their Medela breast pump parts daily and had problems? Or does Medela suggest daily sanitization so they can sell their microwave steam sanitization bags?
Thanks in advance for the replies.
Re: Medela sanitization question
All of this, both quotes! Except I do only use a refrigerated pump set 24 hours. I have several sets.
