y'all would tell me if I was crazy, right? UPDATE

So my brother just sent me this picture. His son was born a few days ago and they are finally taking him home. At first I was all "oh he looks so tiny in his carseat!" And then I was all "what the fuck he's not even strapped in correctly.."

I called him because I wanted to make sure. I didn't do it in a mean way, but I had to make sure he was safely buckled. My bro said "he's fine. he's fine. gotta go." A pride thing, maybe? Whatever.

You be the judge.

Update- Talked to my brother again. He said the nursery nurse strapped him in. He assumed it was fine but when they got to the car, after hearing what i said, realized he was in fact strapped in wrong. They fixed it! Side note- holy f'ing shit a nursery nurse strapped a baby in incorrectly? Fuck no. That would NOT fly at my job!!

  • What! That doesn't look right. At our hospital the nurses brought be baby down and buckled her in to make sure it was right.

  • to me it looks like his legs are ontop of the waist straps. you can tell to the right of the red button that it's going under his leg.

Looks like the legs are in the wrong hole. The straps going under his legs should be on top of them.

  • He just looks super uncomfortable. TheAnd in my non-specialist opinion the chest clip looks wrong. I would take the shoulder pads off. Actually pretty sure I did because A didn't fit right with them on.

We took the infant head rest insert out as well so she didn't get stuck with chin to chest like that.

ahhh I see it now! can you text him that info? my brother sometimes gets defensive too, so i send him a text if he's getting too defensive and therefore not listening to me.

Thats it! Jeasus that was driving me mad, something looked off on the bottom and I couldn't figure it out.

  • Yep legs are not through the right part of the straps! I would def call him and keep calling til he hears you out! If something happened to the little guy neither of you would ever forgive yourselves. I'd rather he be safe and have my brother thinking I'm acting like a know-it-all or something.
  • Here's a pic if a newborn in it with the leg straps right.

my brother and SIL know nothing about babies. When my niece was a few hours old, we got into a drag-out fight, yelling and stuff, because he said that the LC and my aunt said that the baby didn't need to eat for 24 hours. I kept telling him he was wrong- that they said the baby would be sleepy for 24 hours and wouldn't want to eat, but keep trying to wake her and get her to eat as much as possible. We fought for 45 min. Then he started saying how tired he was after being up all night while she was being born. I was all- STFU- you're about to get more tired, and stop starving my niece.

He later called to apologize and said he confirmed with the LC that I was right and he mis-understood. Then 2 days later I had to tell him that my niece couldn't sleep on a pillow.

Oh geez! Well hopefully they aren't that clueless haha. I did my part and told him. Hopefully the nurse will show them the proper way. I'm sure SIL is going to be all butt hurt over it though.

    And thank y'all, I KNEW I wasn't crazy lol.

  • Glad it's fixed! But yeah, holy sht nursery!

  • I can't believe a nurse strapped him in like that. They should at the very lastly be reprimanded and reeducated. The whole situation is just sad.

    Are his legs on top?!?!
  • I don't even know how this could happen, it would take some serious effort!
  • The chest straps are not correct and the harness seems loose.  Also, he is slumped instead of being more upright, but I think that that has to do with the lack of or a really bad newborn insert.  That nurse should be educated! Our nurse was very thorough showing us how to strap in LO (as per the hospital policy).

  • We have that car seat and his legs are definitely not in the right holes! Poor little guy. That can't be comfortable and it's definitely not safe! Shame on that nurse!! How does that even happen?!

  • Wow - I can't believe a nursery nurse would not know how to strap in a baby!!  That's really bad.  Glad they (you) figured it out!

  • We have the B-Safe as well. I can't believe that nurse. When we discharge babies, we can SHOW the parents how to strap them in, but the parents have to physically do it themselves. It's a huge liability otherwise.

What if I hadn't said anything to him, and they assumed he was strapped in properly, and then got in a wreck on the way home??? I can't even think about it. My brother should seriously call her manager and talk to her about it.

  • I strapped A in and she was checked twice. Once in room by our nurse and once by the charge nurse at the front desk. I really hope a nurse didn't strap your nephew in like that.

It seems to me like the brother may be lying about the situation with the nurse buckling the baby in the seat. Maybe he or his wide did it wrong but is blaming "a nurse" to protect his pride a little?

I can't imagine any of the nurses I have encountered thinking that was the right way to buckle a baby in the carseat.

I'm kinda thinking this too. The nurse didn't even buckle Jude in when we left. We did it and she checked it.

  • In my circumstance the nurses not only buckled the baby in but checked the installation of the base, and carried the buckled baby down to our car and placed her in our car. This was our hospitals policy. So he may not be lying.

  • We had this weird nursing aid lady who I didn't know, who didn't speak any English push me and the baby outside and then walked away. No one checked anything.

  • Yeah, I can't imagine any hospital in the country allowing their nurses to physically strap in the babies. First, parents have to learn how to do it before they go out into the world. And second, the liability makes me ill!!!

But it does happen. I did not touch the car seat the day we left the hospital. Until we were in the car driving.

It should be the parent's responsibility. We have to watch the parents buckle the babies up, that way we know if they know what they are doing. I have been shocked at how dumb some parents are. We correct them and they say "oh it would have been fine, we live right down the road". Ummm No???

  • @jnsmith85, it IS the parents' responsibility to know how to properly secure the baby in the carseat. It is great that you watch and correct them if necessary.
