LO's eye

My babe has a cold so he's getting a ton of eye boogers. It is only in one eye and I have realized its only ever been from that eye. I thought maybe the other had a clogged duct but its never been red or puffy or anything. In fact the gooey eye is the one that is red. Does this seem normal in your opinion or should I worry that only one eye is getting boogers?

Re: LO's eye

  • To clarify - his eyeball is not red but the skin around his eye is.

  • A clogged duct would cause eye boogers. The tears leave the tear duct and cleanse the eyes of the eye boogers. I would wash your hands and gently massage the red eye and see what you can do. If you bf maybe drip some milk into the eye. If it doesn't clear up call the dr.

  • Thanks! I thought a clogged duct wouldn't produce anything. Glad I asked!

LO had a clogged duct and her eye was constantly crusty and mucousy. I tried putting expressed BM and using a warm compress to massage and it only got marginally better, so the pedi prescribed an ointment that cleared it right up.

  • If it's green, it could be an infected clogged duct...we had one and just had to put some antibiotic ointment on the lash line a couple of times a day. His eye was red and swollen looking around the outside.

    Ditto all of this.

  • My LO has a clogged duct. It comes and goes. The eye gets watery and crusty... Sometimes the skin around it get red and irritated from rubbing it. But if the eyeball itself gets red you may have another issue. Warm wash cloth and massage should clear it up.

Yep, all this.  2/3 of my kids had/have clogged ducts so I'm pretty familiar.  If you keep it clean the redness should go away in a day or so.  The mucous and boogers seem to come and go.
