Anyone taking thyroid meds?

So I took my synthroid this morning and within about 5-10 minutes I threw up (first real morning sickness, which strangely pleased me haha!). I only threw up some watery stuff (assuming it was the water I had just drank with my pill). I called the pharmacist and asked if I should repeat the dose- she said I could do either one- it probably wasn't really absorbed, but on the other hand it's not such a big deal to miss a dose. She also said I could take half of a dose. So when I got home I took 3/4 of the dose (I had this pill from before I was pregnant). Anyone have an experience like this with synthroid? I just hope I didn't overdose.

Thanks! My levels were checked last week and my TSH was at 2.6, so my doctor increased my dose from .088 to .1, and told me to re-test in 4 weeks. I know she tested T4 but didn't ask what it was. I think I will just resume my regular .1 tomorrow morning, maybe wait a little while to make sure I don't throw up.

Meds usually take about 20 mins to absorb from what docs have told me. I didn't miss any doses in my first trip but I have now in my second tried and my levels have still been fine. This is a good question though.

I have no clue about taking possibly more. But I did just ask my doctor about the throwing up my thyroid medicine issue since I've done it twice this week. Don't know if it's taking it on an empty stomach with a glass of water for you, but that has been my problem. My dr said to take it about 20 min after keeping something down to alleviate the empty stomach issue. It's far more important to get it into your system however you can than skip it. Just wanted to share since I'm throwing mine up too.

Thanks for sharing! I think I will just resume my regular dose tomorrow and hope I got an ok amount in today. I was actually more concerned about over-dosing than under-dosing.

When I found out I was pregnant, my doctor said that 3-4 is normal for tsh levels, and mine was at 27.8 :/ He bumped my medication way up, and then when I went in 3 weeks later after passing out at work, it was at 2.9, and he said it was overactive, and bumped my meds down a little. I'll get it checked again on Monday at my appointment, but he said unless your taking the wrong dosage for an extended amount of time, that you'll be fine. I was really worried, about the drastic change, but I'm still pregnant, and baby has a strong heartbeat. :)

My doctor says that they want to keep you under 2.5. I know a few years ago, the normal range went up to 5, but my doctor explained that they found up to 2.5 was a healthier range. I don't think that 2.9 is overactive at all. I have been at 0.9 and my doctor has said that that's better than over 2.5. I have never felt any symptoms of my thyroid being over or underactive, but my levels have ranged from 0.4 to 4.9. When they were at 4.9 a few years ago (well before I was TTC) my doctor was worried and increased my dosage- she was surprised I didn't have symptoms. Might be worth asking another doctor?

theresat858- Do you know what a good range for T4 would be? I am going to ask my doctor what my last reading was.

Your doctor was very wrong. Your meds should not have been bumped down at a TSH of 2.9 unless your free T4 was really high for some reason. TSH should ALWAYS be under 3 for pregnancy - and more and more data is coming out that under 2 is ideal. I highly recommend finding an endocrinologist if you do not have one already. Any doctor who thinks that a TSH of 4 is ok for a pregnant woman is not aware of the changes in guidelines that happened 5 years ago.
Thanks for that info! The doctor that said that was at the hospital I'd went to. My doctor now has it under control. :) My meds were bumped up again, and my T4 got checked today at my appointment as well.

Im on synthroid post thyroidectomy and currently 11 1/2 wks pregnant. I find setting my alarm to take it earlier and going back to sleep has helped a lot. My morning sickness is/wasnt too bad but I did find it worse when I was waiting the hour to eat after taking synthroid vs taking it earlier and being able to eat right away. When I've thrown up if I couldn't see pill fragments or it wasn't the color of my pill I just let it go.
