Very dumb parenting type question... Babies with hair

DS was bald, as were my niece and nephew and most of my friend's kids. Dd has a ton of hair. It's fine and long and I'm not sure if I should do something with it.

I used my brush really lightly this morning on a part that looked like it might be trying to snarl, but it seems strange to brush a newborn's hair .

Am I wrong to brush it? Should I leave it alone? Do I just use the regular baby soap as shampoo?

DS barely requires any hair care now. I think dd has as much hair as he does.

  • I used the brush that came with the little grooming kit we bought. You can use the baby wash as shampoo.

  • I always brushed DD's hair with a soft baby brush and I washed it with baby shampoo.

  • My DS has a ton of hair, but I can't comb it, let alone brush it. I wash it with Shea butter shampoo and then put hair milk/lotion in it and comb/fluff it out with my fingers. For your LO a simple combing out will probably suffice, lol. You can use whatever baby shampoo you have on hand, my Aveeno wash says it is for hair and body.

  • Thanks, guys! I wanted to make sure I was taking care of that hair right.

I'll have to grab some detangler and one of those brushes.

  • DS has curls, so I don't brush them out. I just run my fingers through tangles to avoid baby dreads.

  • I used a baby brush and when I used soap (which was infrequent), I used a baby all-in-one on her body and hair. She definitely needed her hair to be washed and brushed when she was a newborn.

  • As for cradle cap, if she does get it, massage olive or coconut oil into her scalp and after a few minutes to let it soak in, gently "scrape" the flakes away with a fine tooth comb. I think coconut oil works better than olive oil because it seems to help prevent it from coming back.

  • I love the baby photos!

@kaapajoy That sounds hilarious. DD's hair is all 1.5-2 inches long. It's nuts! I love the sound of one long patch.
