Baby Acne?

My little one's perfect baby skin started breaking out at 2 1/2 weeks and still going at 4 1/2 weeks.  Everything I have read tells me it is perfectly normal and will normally go away within a few months.  In the meantime, I would like to help things along.  Anyone else dealing with this?  I also read that putting breast milk on it will help clear it up.  Anyone ever try this?

Re: Baby Acne?

  • I was told to keep it clean and just leave it. It will disappear :)

  • Breast milk cleared it up in about a week or so. I only put some on her cheeks once or twice a day.

  • I am in the same boat. DD1 had this and it seemed to last forever so now that DD2 has it I am preparing for the worst. DD2 spits up and seems to already have breast milk all over her face so I dont think it's helping us :(

  • Both DS and DD have had baby acne; I did nothing to clear DS', and I'm not doing anything with DD. She's 7.5 weeks, and it's clearing up on its own. I've also heard that breast milk helps, but I've just let it run its course.

  • Abby's seems to finally be clearing up some. She is 6w3d. I read that breastmilk can make it worse (she had a bad breakout on her chin -dribbling milk??) everything I read said acne is normal and will go away on its own.

  • I tried breast milk but it made DS face sticky. I'm putting California Baby's Candula cream on his face, neck and earlobe twice a day and it's starting to clear up. For some reason he enjoys it when I put that on his face and it calms him down. I also just wipe down his face without soap.

  • We have it here. Started around 3 weeks. It looks much better now, bumping but not really red anymore. I haven't put anything on it.

  • Pedi told me it would make it worse if I put anything on it. It's mostly cleared up now, she's 7w1d.

  • I tried breast milk but it made her face sticky. It cleared up after about 2 weeks.

  • My LO has it too. Started at 3 weeks and she'll be 5 weeks tomorrow. It seems to be getting better. Our dr said not to put anything, just keep it clean. I find now her skin looks more dry than anything so I'm debating putting some arbonne lotion on it but not sure. I think the acne bothers me much more than her.
  • I use coconut oil and it has worked well. Like PPs though the pediatrician told me it peaks around weeks 6-10 and it will clear completely in time!
  • Breast milk did wonders

  • Thank you for the replies everyone!  I have a follow-up question for those of you who tried the breast milk:  How did you apply it and how often?

Another one who used breast milk. It cleared in about a week.

ETA: To answer your follow ups I did it once or twice a day and usually had enough on my nipples when she would unlatch to just rub a thin layer on each cheek. If need be, I would use drops coming from the breast that hadn't been eaten from while she ate from the first. I still leak like crazy from one while she eats from the other.

  • DD had it from weeks 4-6. I put breast milk on it once but it just made her face sticky. I left it alone after that.

  • DD's cleared up as soon as I realized she had dairy and soy intolerance. Maybe it's something you're eating or the typical mother's hormones in her system yet.

  • Thanks for all the responses.  In the past few days, I have wiped her face with a warm washcloth and that has already done wonders.  She still has it pretty bad on her chest/back so I am thinking it is temperature-related and she gets hot and sweats.  I'm also running the humidifier more which is helping everyone. :)

  • Mine doesn't have it, but my best friend's DD did. While grocery shopping, some random lady stopped her in the middle of an aisle and told her to clear it up she needed to rub the baby's first morning urine diaper on it. SAY WHAT?? URINE??

Needless to say, she did not try it...but it sure made for a good story.
