Working Moms: What's your morning routine?

I go back Monday and I'm still nervous about how to make everything work in the morning. I'll be doing daycare drop offs, although DH will be around in the morning to help.

How early do you get up?
What is your makeup and hair routine?
What do you usually have for breakfast?
How many days a week do you actually make it to work on time???
Any tips you can share for getting out the door and to work on time?

ETA: Do you have to wake up LO in the morning?

I get up at 5, shower and get myself ready including oatmeal for breakfast and lots of coffee and get DS juice & probiotics ready and DDs bottles ready of I didn't do it the night before. At 6 I nurse DD, then pump and get her dressed for the day. At 6:30 I wake up (if needed) DS and get him dressed. At 6:55 we are in the car for a 7am drop-off. Luckily daycare provides a home cooked breakfast for the kids!!

I have found that I don't get myself ready before the kids it's a struggle to get out on time. Anything you can prep the night before (lunches, bottles, etc) will help in the morning.

I'm up at 5:30, workout and shower usually out by 6:15-6:30ish. LO is just waking up around then we both go in get her up and DH or I (he just wakes up and gets ready quick) will get her ready to go (changed and all) and I/him will put on a bottle. He feeds her as I'm getting ready. Usually she will go back to sleep if not we try to play with her a little before she goes to my Mom. We are usally both out the door before 7:30.

I'm not a big breakfast person so I grab a bar or something small.

I have actually been getting to work earlier then I was when we didn't have her because I'm getting up earlier.

TIPS: It is very unlikely you will get to work on time the first week. It takes time to adjust both yourself and the baby. Don't get frustrated it will all work out with some time. :)

ETA: I do all the prep ( bottle, diaper bag, etc.) the night before.

  • Wake up at 5:30, change and feed LO, shower, blow dry and full makeup to be done by 7. Then I feed LO again, change his diaper if he needs it, get him dressed, check diaper bag, load him up, out the door by 7:30, drop him off, and at work by 8.

Note: my care provider is MIL and her house is on my way to work which is only 2 miles from my house. I also prepare the bottles the night before so I can just grab out of the refrigerator and go.
  • DS hasn't started Daycare yet, but our routine has been. I wake up at 5 and shower and start getting ready. I try to be completely ready except for putting on my work clothes. If DS is not up by 6-615, I wake to feed him and change diaper then put back to bed. I then pump and pack ice packs and lunchbox (put together the night before) into work bag. Then I finish getting dressed. I might grab a Larabar or banana on my way out and then will eat a bigger breakfast at work.

Sometimes DS will wake up earlier, so I just take care of him then finish getting ready.

The biggest thing is have as much done the night before for yourself (lunch packed, clothes picked out, etc) and LO. Also knowing the current time as you do things in the morning helps.

Thanks everyone. It helps to see others making it work. For some reason, getting two ready for daycare has me really frazzled. DS1 can get himself dressed and brush his teeth, but it still requires supervision/nagging. It just seems so overwhelming right now and I'm not looking forward to getting up so early!

ETA: Also daylight savings time the week I go back to work. Ugh...

  • We get up at 6:30 if LO doesn't wake us first. She usually does; she tends to get up at like 5:45. One of us gets up with her, feeds her and changes her. Then one of us showers, dresses and eats, then the other one (the one not getting ready watches LO obviously). We get all of us ready by 7:40 and get out the door. Husband does drop offs.

This has been covered but the more you can do ahead the better. Don't let bottle washing wait til morning and have LO bag ready to go, and your own work bag.

Night before I prep after LO goes to bed. So bottles, pump parts are all cleaned. Then I pack everything up for next day.
I wake up at 4:30 to pump. Then I shower. I cut off my hair do blow drying takes 15 min instead of 30. Make up: I have a simple look that works for me that takes 15 min to do.

I wake LO at 6:15 to feed. Then I'm out the door by 7. DH wakes at 6:30 to take care of getting LO ready for daycare and he takes her. But I am packed and baby is packed the night before and that is a good time saver.

I eat oatmeal for breakfast or toast with peanut butter.

I at some point hope to start running after I pump for a half hour.

We shall see if that ever happens.

Eta: when it comes to getting to work, I used to work 9-5 but I am now getting in at 8:15 to make up for pumping and leaving at 4:30 to pick up LO from daycare. My commute is about a hour. My job is pretty chill about time.

This is the make up look I do every morning, a little toned down though.

2 is harder than one but we are doing practice runs to make it easier :)

I go back on Monday too. LO wakes up everyday at 630. I plan to get up feed her and then let her play with DH while I shower. I'll have her in the room with me when I do my hair (blow dry and quick straighten) and makeup (the works). It takes me about 20 mins. to get ready. We pack our lunches the night before and I'll pump bottles at work for the next day or use my stash if needed.I have to be at work by 8:30 and it is only a couple of mins. to the daycare and work. Hopefully we will get a routine down.

    Good for you though!
    :)

Edit because no gif should be that big..

I thought that was a joke from the perfect365 app, no? I'm a minimalist though. Concealer, powder, curl eyelashes, lipgloss and maybe mascara.

If I went to work looking like that everyone would think I didn't go home the night before haha
Haha! I do tone it down. But I'm a make up whore. I love crazy looks like that. If I showed you some of the other looks I have done, you would for sure label me a lady of the night. ;;)

Eta: my phone keeps making up words today
  • Also for breakfast we are doing frozen egg sandwiches. Kinda pricey but they only take 2 mins to heat in the microwave and you can eat them with one hand!

  • I get up at 6:30 to get a shower/make up/eat breakfast before LO wakes up (if I'm lucky...doesn't always happen this way). Then around 7:15 I'll wake LO up to eat and get changed. I try to be out the door by 8:10. MIL watches LO while I'm working and I get there in plenty of time to make it to work, but MIL usually talks my ear off and makes me 10 minutes late. I suggest getting everything ready the night before. It's so much easier to have everything packed up and grab it as your walking out the door.

This doesn't always happen. This week LO has been waking up around 6:00, so I'll feed/change her, eat breakfast and then hop in the shower. I just put her in the RnP while I'm showering and getting ready.

  • I get the diaper bag, bottles, and my breast pumping bag all ready to go the night before. I'm up at 5:30-6. If LO wakes up, I nurse her and then put her on her play mat while I shower. If she sleeps, I shower and then wake her up, dress her, nurse her while I do my makeup. H sleeps until 6:20, he gets up and showers and then takes her until I finish getting ready. I leave the house at 7:30, drop her off with the sitter and get breakfast at work. I pump 2-3 times a day at work...which is a pain.
  • I get up at 5:30, get dressed, makeup, hair, which I'm pretty fast at, then I wake LO up at 6:15, feed her, then she hangs out while I make & eat oatmeal. Then I pack everything up, we're out the door at 7:15, I drop her off by 7:30, & am at work by 8:00. I was a few min late the first couple days because of having to go over a few instructions, but in the future I think it will be quicker.
  • Oh & I should add I make my lunch & prep the diaper bag & bottles, as well as pick out my clothes all the night before.
