Quickening/First signs of movement

I'm sure by now a vast majority of us have felt some sort of movement already, so for those who have, what has it felt like to you? People describe it in so many different ways and I just find it interesting to see how everyone differs! Mine has felt like the tiniest pokes, like someone tapping their fingers on the inside of my belly. My mom said with me it was like flutters or butterflies. Ready, set, go!

Re: Quickening/First signs of movement

  • I haven't felt any movement yet. I have an anterior placenta so I probably won't feel anything for a few more weeks. I'm really jealous of everyone who gets to feel baby so early! On the plus side, I have been able to see baby at every appointment. My doctor has a hard time finding the heartbeat with the Doppler, so I get a quick ultrasound. I guess it's a trade off.

  • I'm a FTM, so I'm having a hard time differentiating between babies' movements and whether it's gas...which I've never noticed before.  But I feel a lot of fluttering.  I get to see my babies every week on ultrasound and they're moving tons.  My Baby B is at my belly button and I feel the flutters there and where it seems to be our Baby A is laying.  Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I'll be sure it's them! :)

  • It feels like fluttering down low. I felt a distinctive poke yesterday.

  • I would saw rolling more than flutters, it's creepy I once read someone describe it like a snake moving, but that's what it felt like. Also the soft tapping OP described is common. I usually place my hand and press a little to feel my ute, I'm not sure if I feel movement on my hand or since it's just from the inside, I can't wait for DH to feel him!

  • Haven't felt anything yet that I can easily say isn't gas moving on through. I've tried relaxing & focusing on the area, plus pushing down a little bit when laying on my back, but nothing yet. I figure it'll be a couple weeks more

I also haven't felt anything definitive! I am always wondering if it's gas or baby.

Im on mobile so if you have a ticker I can't see it, but how far along are you? I also have an anterior placenta. I felt one little bit of something last week at 16 weeks but this week I can for sure feel those little taps. It always catches me off guard and I end up trying to focus on it and don't feel it again until I'm not paying any attention. Sneaky little bugger!

  • First movement felt like little flutters/tickles. Then it went to more of a rolling feeling, I like to affectionately call it 'The Eel'. Like PP mentioned, it does feel like an eel or snake writhing around. The first time it happened it definitely got my attention! Sometimes it feels like a big intestinal movement, but in my uterus. It's interesting but I could tell right away that the sensation was coming from a "new" part of my body, so even thought it felt like gas I knew it wasn't. Now baby is super active and I can see him/her moving, especially in the mornings!

  • I'm actually surprised that I have felt what I think is baby already, being a FTM & only 16 weeks.  One thing I have felt is this rapid fluttering/isolated rapid heartbeat (I know it's not a heartbeat)/rapid muscle spasm.  Wednesday I had a slightly different feeling which felt like a bunch of rapid fire, super super light kicks, but I would also describe it as a flutter.

It's definitely different than my gas pains/bubbles.

I'm 17 weeks 1 day. I'm a FTM so I will probably not realize what's happening when I do start feeling movement.

@Queenb0912 I've gotten the same comments. When I explain the anterior placenta I get a lot of strange looks and questions. One of my coworkers even went so far to tell me that her SIL had an anterior placenta and had to have a c-section because it was too dangerous to deliver vaginally. I think she confused anterior placenta with previa though.

  • I just found out yesterday that I have a anterior placenta as well. I guess it'll be awhile before I feel anything since they have a hard time finding the heartbeat at my appts. (But the extra ultrasound WAS nice ;)
  • I've been feeling movement for a few weeks. With my daughter, I didn't feel any movement until much later. With this pregnancy, it started as an adrenaline rush or quickening of my heart rate. Then, it turned into a rolling sensation (like a small ball inside a bigger ball). Now it's more movement ... today it was as if she was doing a little jig in there. There was definite limb movement from her, not just rolling. I LOVE it!

Yea I'm a FTM too, so thats why I was thinking it was just something weird. Then after I started feeling it almost every day I figured it HAS to be movement. Lol. I'll say that I usually feel it when I'm sort of hunched over putting a little pressure on the area. I have felt something while sitting in the car and walking around in a store but 95% of the time I'm sitting hunched forward.

  • I have been feeling a "tickling" feeling like others described. I still can only feel it sometimes. Every couple of days, I get one that I know is definitely the baby. It's usually when I'm sitting quietly at my desk working. I could really tell when it began because it just felt like something I hadn't ever felt before.

  • Most of the time it's more of a tapping sensation, but there have been a few times when I've been taken by surprise by more definitive jabs.  One time I could even feel it from the outside, but that was only once.  Overall though, the movement is still pretty sporadic at this point.

Yea mine is sporadic also. Its like some days I will feel it a lot and other days I don't feel much of anything at all. But I'm sure we will all be feeling the dance parties soon enough! :)

Yes!  The quickening of my heart rate, I've had a few times. I feel the heart rate in combination with the swishing/rolling sensation in my pelvic area or little popcorn pops. I may have felt this once per week in weeks 15 and 16 so far and only when conditions are just so.

  • Feels like gas. I have to stop and really pay attention to tell the difference. There's usually an evaluation of location and what I've eaten recently.
