Ugh. Rough few days.

I got a call yesterday that my father had been admitted to the hospital. He has a horrible infection of some type in his foot and they needed to do surgery to get a better idea of the damage. They were also concerned that they may have to amputate.....additionally he has a horrible mass on his jaw. His bone is literally dissolving. Could be another infection but its suspected to be a tumor.

Thankfully they were able to save his foot today. Tomorrow they will biopsy his jaw.....the original plan was for surgery on that too but the oral surgeon confirmed he believes it to be a tumor as well and recommended an ENT come in. We have already been told that if its a cancerous tumor "it will be a huge problem." Personally I fear the jaw is indeed cancer and its already in his bones.....

I am feeling totally numb. My dad has never taken care of himself. Smokes like a chimney, cheated death once already with massive lung problems - and then continued to smoke and chewed dipping tobacco for years on end. Oral cancer would make complete sense. It's only been a matter of time until something like this happened. But still- now I fear my sisters and I face a very long, painful road and that is hard. Furthermore my dad is not married and has no one in his life. It is making my heart hurt to think of him alone in that hospital. My sister and I went to visit today. He looked absolutely awful. I'd appreciate any thoughts and prayers you guys have.

And just to add insult to injury - he was admitted on the two year anniversary of my FILs passing which happened the day after our iF DX. I am starting to really loathe the first week of March. Particularly because I have a nagging feeling next year at this time - I won't have a dad. Sorry to be morbid, but I ended to get all of that out!

I'm sorry JBDamonM. Hugs. It is such a hard and painful time when we have to watch the people we love and care about hurt. Cancer is a word I've come to loathe. It has hit too many people I care deeply about. If you ever need to vent or talk to someone who can relate feel free to PM me. I've been in your shoes when my dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

It kind of feels that way - BUT yesterday I went straight from the hospital to daycare and picked up LO..... I have her and I beat IF - and that's a bright spot

So thankful for that little snugglebug to keep spirits up.

I'm so sorry. I will keep you, your dad, and your family in my thoughts. My dad was very recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and is having surgery on Monday. It is so heartbreaking watching someone you love in pain, or afraid of things to come. Sending you ((HUGS)). We are here if you need us.

I'm glad his foot surgery wasn't as invasive as it could have been. I hope the biopsy goes well. It's a lot to try and digest. Try and take the information as it comes. ((Hugs))

We got a verbal DX this morning of late stage cancer. Once the drs review the results they will make a treatment plan and meet with us, but we have already been told it will center on chemo and radiation, if my dad consents. They will also give us a prognosis in that meeting in terms of life expectancy. I knew this was coming but it's very very sad none the less. My heart is really heavy today.

@pb_bride - almost everyone thinks he won't consent, including myself. And as sick as this sounds, if that is his wish then I am fine with keeping him as comfortable as possible during this time....I would feel differently if this were early detection or there was a better prognosis obviously. I also don't think he is strong enough to survive radiation. There is no sugar coating it - things look really bad.
