DD still uses her paci for naps and nighttime, but I feel like it's about time to take it away. When did you or when will you get rid of the paci? How did you go about it?
Same here - DS uses it for naps at home (he naps fine without it at daycare, but refuses to sleep without it here) and nighttime. We're going to get rid of it over the summer probably. Since I know it will probably mean a few cranky days between naps and nighttime, I'd rather do that when DH and I are both out for the summer. I might attempt it over spring break though.. we'll see how ambitious I feel lol! I think we're probably just going to go cold turkey. My best friend did that with each of her kids and she said there were a couple of unhappy days and then they were fine.

We took DD's away back in October. We went cold turkey. We made a big deal about putting all the pacis in a baggie to give to a little baby (actually threw them away eventually. One of those things that can be new with each kid). The first 3 days were tough but her special monkey helped.

We never really used one .. maybe a week or two early on and after that he just used them to teeth on so we had to take them off him and got a couple of double prong teethers that had the binky style mouthpiece that were awesome for reaching the sides and back.
I'm glad that is one less battle we have.. good luck
We haven't taken DS2's yet and probably won't even think about it until this summer or fall. He only uses it in the bed right now so I'm not terribly worried about it. DS1 gave his up on his own at 2.5 and our pediatric dentist said we didn't need to worry until he got to 3. If he doesn't give it up on his own like his brother (and I'm not holding my breath that it will happen that way) then we'll take it around Christmas of this year probably.
We took DDs last month because it was rubbing on her chin and giving her a bad rash. I just told her whenever she asked about it that "nukka" was giving her face a bad owie so we said bye bye to nukka. She was very surprisingly OK with it. She hasn't asked about it for a few weeks now.
We cut a small hole in the tip and still let him have it at naps and bedtime. He ended it up throwing it out of his crib. He'd cry for us to come in, but we just waited him out and he eventually went to sleep without it. It was a tough couple of days, but once he was over it we never looked back. This was at 1yo.
