  • Zantac is working...also doing gas meds and gripe water.
She had a great day today...smiled, cooed, barely cried. (3 blow outs, so no more gas pain!)
I can tell when she needs the Zantac....arches back and looks uncomfortable.
We need to figure out this spitting up crap!  I hate changing my and her clothes several times a day!!!!
I'm going to make stuffed peppers (too lazy to make it today) tomorrow.
I love my apples and cal one butter. Yummmm.

  • I have eliminated dairy and soy, but found that she has had blood in her stool twice since eliminating. Thank goodness I have been keeping a food diary, both times I had made spaghetti with tomato sauce and hamburger. The sauce didn't have any milk/soy listed, so I'm thinking she might have a reaction to the beef. We will see this week, I'm making sauce with Italian sausage. Her baby acne has completely cleared, which was awesome, she definitely broke out each day. And her gas/excessive amount of poops has greatly decreased!
I shop at Wegmans, and this weekend hit the gluten free area (as well as the organic/nature made area) and hit the jackopot. Rudi's whole wheat bread! Some pizza crusts and Enjoy Life cookies!! I have also been using earths balance butter (no dairy/soy) and almond milk and daiyo cheese in most of my recipes, and they have been really good (can't tell the difference).
The one thing I miss is my coffee creamer (I used Creme brûlée)
  • Things seem to be getting better over here. I don't know if it's the MSPI or just time. We weren't actually diagnose, the pediatrician just told me to cut dairy and soy out to see if it helps DD's gas and explosive poop issues. She is spitting up a lot though. We all have to change our clothes at least once a day.
I am sick of saying to DH "I can't have that." Over and over again.
We have been eating a lot of grilled chicken and sweet potatoes.
One thing I tried that I love is grilled cheese (Daiya) with avocado. Sooooo good!!

  • We haven't been diagnosed but with the silent reflux diagnosis they suggested cutting dairy to see if it helps. He has been on Zantac nearly two weeks now.
I have been dairy free a week and haven't seen any change. The Zantac helps a bit.
He is really congested in his nose these last 2 weeks. It almost seems worse than before I cut the dairy but that might be a coincidence. He gets the worse congestion at night. I have to use saline drops and the nosefrida every 2 hours at night. I run a cool mist dehumidifier too all night which helps a little bit. I didn't have any water for it last night and he was worse for sure without it.
My go to snacks have been fruit. We stocked up on berries and apples.
I miss yogurt! I used to eat that with fruit as my snack before cutting the dairy.

  • I'm on day 3 of eliminating dairy. So far no real change but I know it is early still. DS for sure has some reflux issues but I wanted to give this a try before meds.

My go to meal is a huge salad with chicken, avocado, cucumber, apple, sometimes craisins and then a vinaigrette. That is lunch most days. Dinners are easy because my oldest is dairy free anyway so we already eat that way.

Breakfast is a real struggle though. Most of what I can think of is incredibly carb heavy. I know there are eggs but my oldest is severely allergic so I don't want to overdo them while BF this LO.

I think I will bake something with older DS today. I have some Enjoy Life chips so maybe pumpkin muffins with chocolate chips. Then I'll have a yummy if not totally healthy breakfast option.

  • @Elsutto2 - DD still spits up a ton on my BM. She doesn't as much with the Alimemtum. I think bc my BM is like water bc of this shitty diet, so it's easy to come back up. I also blame it on a weak esophageal valve. Her system is still immature, so it's easy for BM to come right back up...it's just not like thick formula.
I'm also sick of telling H "can't eat that, sorry". I feel high maintenance and a pain in the ass. I don't see BFing lasting as long as it did with DS. I feel terrible about it, but it drives me nutty. I'm hungry!

Well, it's official...my first MSPI check in. :(

Today at DD2's 1M appointment (she's really 6w today), we discussed her symptoms: reflux, mucousy green poop, extreme fussiness, arching/stiffness after feedings, bumpy rash on face/neck/chest, and now....blood in her diaper. Today was the first time for blood and although it freaked me out, I'm actually relieved it happened while at the doctor. I've been advised to remove all dairy, soy, egg and nuts from my diet. Yesterday I had a bit of all of that and today had blood. After 2 weeks, I will introduce nuts or eggs to rule those out. Pedi wants to hold off on reflux meds for now to see if the diet change will be enough but we plan to incline her naps and bed time now.

I have no meals/snacks to contribute yet since I'm starting today. I used to be Paleo pre-pregnancy so I plan to go back to my old recipes, although they included a lot of eggs and nuts. Fingers crossed that I can rule those out after a couple weeks. If we do, I LOVE this Paleo site: www.paleomg.com, if anyone is interested.

On a side note, DD2's hip was clicking (but not popping) at her exam so we have to do a hip ultrasound to check for hip dysplasia. I am staying positive that it's nothing. Ugh, today's appointment wasn't the greatest.

Look forward to sharing in this check in. Btw, how often do we meet (daily/weekly)?

  • @miamypuggle - it bugs me too and I'm only a few days in. I am starving. I've been eating a lot of avocado and good fats but it only helps so much.

Makes sense. I've just always heard that breast fed babies fight spit up or need to burp. Pshhhh yea right.
I hear ya! I'm ready to give it up too but my DH is practically begging me not to.

@RingofFire11 - at our appt today, we were referred to a pedi ortho dr to check her hip...no clicking, but she cried bc of the dr stretching her...did the same last time. Praying for stiff ligaments that just need some stretching. My SIL had surgery at 6 mo old for hip dysplasia and was in a cast for months....how do you change a freaking diaper??? • @Elsutto2 - I've been told that BF babies don't get as much air, so it's not terrible if they don't burp. Who knows? I just want to feel like myself again. I feel famished bc I'd rather says"f it" than try to find something I can eat. Hate shopping with the kids, so I go when H has them and baby was cranky for him the last time, so outside the house alone time was short lived, so who knows when I'll be able to go shopping again to buy things for me. It's too hard right now to search for easy recipes and get the ingredients when I have two to care for.

  • One easy food that I know is dairy free (not sure about soy? DS1 tolerates it) is Alexia sweet potato fries. We often have those and safe chicken fingers (frozen from Costco) for a lazy weeknight dinner.

Food Allergy Mama has a lot on her site too. Another lazy dinner I make is her whole wheat waffles with bacon or turkey sausage plus fruit:

  • Any good news? Diet seems to be working.  Need to talk to pedi about starting reflux meds (per the lactation consultant's advice).
    Getting better/worse? Getting way better.
Latest go to meal? I don't have one, but we have started making my favorite mexican/southwest casserole without the cheese on top.  It is perfectly tasty with out it.
Any snacks you found out we can have any want to share??? I made dairy-free chocolate chip cookies this weekend.  You can use Enjoy Life! brand chocolate chips, or if your LO tolerates soy lecithin then just do a search for vegan chocolate chips and you can get a list of suitable brands. DH has proclaimed these cookies delicious, and told me he likes these better than chocolate chip cookies made with butter and I would have to agree.  https://www.littlepinkmonster.com/2013/08/24/accidental-dairy-free-yummiest-cookies-ever-with-coconut-oil-instead-of-butter/

Omg, hopefully they are just being cautious too. Our appointment for the hip ultrasound is scheduled for tomorrow. Fingers crossed for both our girls. Keep me posted!

All is well here. X-Ray showed nothing and she's growing perfectly. Thank God. Poor little thing.

  • Ladies, did any of you start introducing anything back into the diet? Like skim milk? I had it yesterday and she wasn't miserable like before. Also, I did more research and it said that soy oil is fine bc it's a fat, not a protein. Stupid question: does that include soyBEAN oil? I'm being overly cautious, I know!

That's awesome!! We also got the call today that DD2's ultrasound on her hip was normal. Yay for good news!

Now just to pinpoint the allergy issue and we'll be on to something. :)
