One & Done: Only child

lurker question

Hi all, I'm a march 13 mom and I lurk around here bc I'm prettyyy positive we are oad. However, my question to you ladies is do you ever get baby fever twinges despite being oad?

My baby will be one in a week and I'm starting to get the slightest twinges of baby fever. Maybe I just miss the baby stage and watching her hit her milestones, etc? I'm just wondering if any of y'all who are for sure oad still get baby fever now and again despite logically knowing you're done.

Re: lurker question

  • lol, if you take a look at my post from 1/2 an hour ago, you'll see that while logically I understand why I'm OAD, I still basically always think about the possibility of having another kid. but like I mentioned in that post/rant, I think I definitely see the light at the end of this tunnel. also, I think the fact that baby boom #2 for my BMB is at it's tail end now (we're sept 11 moms) is helping - less pg activity, less announcements, etc.

  • I've truly never ever had baby fever. That's how positive we are about wanting one, and just one.

But that said, it's normal to have baby 'fever' and urges I think... even when you know you're done.  Because we're all done for different reasons.

  • I haven't yet. I look at babies and think "cute, but I'm glad I'm not taking it home." We're fence sitters though I think if we have another it'll be when DD is 4.
  • So far no. And I really dont have it when the moms with NBs tell me how little they sleep at night.

  • I got baby fever when ds was two. I changed my mind about it almost daily, knowing logically that oad was right for us but still really considering what a second would be like. I don't think I *missed* the baby stage, but I wanted to do it again as an experienced mom.

Baby fever went away after 6 months or so. Around that time, ds vomited for the second time in his life -- that will make you grateful for only having one, that's for sure!

This. Even when I get nostalgic about some of the milestones, I would want to redo them with the kid I have now, not another one.

Yeah this is how I feel too -- to want to do it again, literally -- except for during those random six months of baby fever! Lol I was seriously surprised I got baby fever, I never thought it would happen to me.

  • I agree with what @eyenigh & @chapter79 said.

  • YES lol but i'm on the fence. One week I will really want another and then the next week I don't. Nothing is set in stone. Just give yourself some time to really be sure you are 100% either way :)

  • I definitely get baby fever.... Er, well, I think it's mostly pregnancy jealousy? I absolutely LOVED being pregnant and it got cut short by two months, which bummed me out... So yeah, I get jealous when I see pregnant women, and I also get really annoyed when I see an 8/9monts pg woman complaining to "get this baby out of me!"......... buuuuut, I no longer have the desire for another child(I had always wanted two- decided OaD after baby was a couple months old).

Logic always trumps my emotions with big issues like this. It has to, or [my] life would be chaos.

Yes, but DH is 100% OAD, so I go back and forth and all around about the pros and cons of being OAD, which is pointless because this has already been decided for me.  I think it tends to get worse based on where I am at in my menstrual cycle, so it helps to be aware of that.  Maybe I can have them remove my ute and get rid of these hormones!

  • Wow thanks for all the great answers! Yeah I'm like 98% sure that we're done I just see babies sometimes and get the twinge. But now that I'm reading yalls responses I do kinda think I miss HER baby stage not necessarily the baby stage in general.
  • Actual baby fever?  No.  Babies are hard, yo.  But, as LO gets older and easier, I've started to picture our family with two kids.  So, maybe I have kid fever?
  • Baby fever all day long. But it's not happening :)

  • LO is a little young for me to feel that way, but I imagine when I do get it, I will just have to remember the trouble that DH and I are going through right now, and I will remember why I dont want to watch him struggle a second time.
