Cloth Diapering

Obsessed with workhorses!

So I am fond of prefolds.  Recently I incorporated flats as well which I love even more.  But I am completely obsessed with workhorses!  I wish they were my entire stash!  They are soo quick and easy to put on.  And they absorb a ton.  LO had a newborn poop-splosion the other morning and not one drop leaked.  And since they are cotton and have that flap in the middle my HE FL gets them completely clean.

Does anyone workhorse their older kiddos?  Or does the love for workhorses go away once they get past newborn stage?

Re: Obsessed with workhorses!

  • My whole stash is made up of workhorses, with a few prefolds. I LOVE them. My DD is 9 months old and I don't see myself using anything else.

  • What is a workhorse???
  • They are a fitted diaper made out of prefold material. Go to Green Mountain Diapers website if you want to check them out.  I found out about them on this forum.  A lot of other moms love them here.
  • Thank you!

My kid is a super pee-er at night so we are still in sposies. I would love to be completely cloth!

If I would have known about these I would have used them on DS2 from the get go.
  • I have two brown edges I use on 17 month old G. I like them a lot for daytime and actually Ive used them in a pinch ON with a hemp doubler.

I don't think I would have loved them during that period where they really fight diaper changes from like 11 month to 14 months but otherwise I think I could have been happy with a stash of mostly WHs with some flats and some pockets for DC thrown in.

  • So far they have been working really well for overnights, too. I use a newborn prefold as a doubler with a Blueberry coverall and we have zero leaks. Fingers crossed she dosent out-pee the absorbency any time soon.

Do you put the prefold in the WH or in the cover under the WH? I feel like in the WH would cause gaps in the leg holes.
When I use doublers w/ a WH I put in between the WH and the cover.  I agree I think stuffing in the WH would cause gaps, but I've never tried.

  • I use WH over night with a cover and I love them too. Harper is small for her age but I'm definitely going to order the next size up as well

I trifold it outside of the WH. Actually, I lay it in the cover and fan out the back just a little. She's a peanut, so the newborn size are perfect right now. It might get a little too bulky when she needs the smalls as doublers.

  • Most of my nb stash are WHs.  I do plan to sell them and go up to either smalls or mediums...depending on how long I can stretch out the nbs.

I would think you'd have to use the doubler under the WH not in it.  Has anyone done in?

  • Next LO, I think I'm going to try to go from NB to the red WH, and skip small. L has been in the red edge from 5 months, they were big then but they worked. She's 9 months now and still has plenty of growing room.

WH's are the reason I like cd'ing. I hated pockets, and only tolerate prefolds.

  • I skipped the newborn and went to the small.  At the pediatrician last week she was 10 lbs.  We have 4 right now and just ordered 2 more in small since they fit her soo good.  Hopefully I won't regret it and wish I would've went w/ the medium.  We have newborn prefolds I am not using anymore so I suppose I could trifold those between the WH and cover once the small WH doesn't cut it anymore.
  • When you go to the red workhorse is this the snaps version or not? I have newborn fitteds but want to add the next size up...would love to skip the small and save some cash :)

  • Hmmm.. now I'm not sure if I should buy all newborn then go to mediums or just buy small.
