Hair under skin

This morning when I was dressing my LO I noticed a red mark that kind of looked like a scratch near his armpit. I went to take a closer look noticed a black tip of a hair sticking out and could see the hair under the skin. I took tweezers and pulled the hair out, it was an inch long! It was black, thick, and wirey like. I have no idea how I never noticed this before, he has a bath every night. Has anyone heard of this before? The attached photo is of his arm after it was removed. It was just as red as the photo before I removed it. I also attached a picture of the hair. I'm so baffled as why my baby had 1 random long hair growing under his skin and how I just noticed it!

Re: Hair under skin

  • We do have a dog, it is a charcoal lab so I thought maybe it was her hair but it's quite a bit thicker and more of a wirey like hair strand so I was second guessing that it could be her hair but it's a possibility. It was under his skin so far I was confused at how it got there. It is the only explainable way to me though so it could have been a dog hair! It was the strangest thing finding that this morning.

  • Going off of what pp said- I guess it could be a hair splinter? My SIL does hair and she says that she gets hair splinters from time to time and that if the hair goes in just right, it can get stuck under your skin.

  • It must have been a dog hair. I kinda fe silly now but it was just the weirdest thing. Kinda freaked me out as it looked quite red and I was upset that I hadn't noticed it growing before but if it was a hair splinter it makes sense! Thanks ladies :)
  • I occasionally get an ingrown hair like that under my arm. Your baby just went through a lot of hormonal changes just like you so I wouldn't surprise me if it was a legitimate ingrown hair.

^ This. Babies still have lots of hormones from their mothers at this point.
