2 month check up

Took LO to his 2 month check up today. All was going well until the dr put him on his tummy to check his back. LO has a birthmark right in the middle of his back on his spine. Dr states he wasn't worried due to LO being so active but according to the pediatric guidelines he wants it checked out. So now LO has an MRI scheduled for next Wednesday. Hopefully he cooperates because if not then well will have to go out of town (our hospital doesn't do them) for a sedated MRI. T & P's please!!!!

My LO has a birthmark "tramp stamp" as I like to call it (location wise) lol, why is your pedi having it checked out for?

Eta: definitely praying for your LO, just also asking if there is something I should bring up to my pedi :)

  • Sorry you're going through this! I would be worried too. Hope his MRI goes well and that it turns out to be nothing. Ts and Ps for you and your LO.

What is the reason for concern? I guess I'm confused? Has it changed shape or color since birth? Ts and ps though, MRI s can be loud and scary for kids :(

Some pedis are paranoid that it can be a sign of a neural tube defect. It is a common site for birthmarks however.

ETA: my LO has a birthmark there (looks like stork bite). My pedi says she will keep an eye on it but most likely its fine as LO's legs have been moving well, and won't do an MRI unless there is more cause for concern to avoid sedation.
  • Ts and Ps BTW op. Odds are much on your side!
