Any Aden & Anais users?

edited March 2014 in January 2014 Moms
A friend of mine lent me 2 of her Aden & Anais swaddle blankets to try out with my LO. Her LO doesn't like to be swaddled, she bought them more for blanket use on their recent hot trip. I attempted to swaddle my LO last night after watching a video how to wrap him and didn't do too bad but it wasn't the tightest. I love that the material has give to it compared to other blankets and am wondering if anyone on TB uses them, has any comments about whether or not they like them, tips or tricks and also how many they would recommend having on hand? Thanks in advance ladies. Happy hump day!! :)

  • Another huge fan. I love the muslin material. I have four.

  • I have 4! DS doesn't love to be swaddled, but they're perfect for covering him up when I hold him (we end up sweating with anything heavier). I also use them like a car seat cover because they're pretty large.

  • Thanks so much!! Where did you ladies get yours? Some of you have so many and they are quite expensive from what I have seen when I have looked online. I wish I knew about these 2 months ago so I could have hinted to get some for our baby shower :)
  • DD slept swaddled in the A+A boutique size swaddles exclusively for the first month. She got strong pretty fast though so now I use a SwaddleDesigns Ultimate Receiving Blanket. It's a thicker flannel material and tougher for her to jail break. I still use A+A for nap (attempts) and daycare uses an A+A with her too. I'm hoping to be out of the swaddle phase by the time the flannel one would be too warm.

  • And STM's that used the swaddle blankets? I watched a video on YouTube which a lady said she swaddled with them up to 7 months, wondering if anyone else has swaddled until then and then what did you use? Sleep sacks? Any specific brands?

I love their stuff. DD has 6 of the boutique ones and she has the snap bibs, which are also super awesome. I'm debating on getting me, I mean her the dream blanket!

Eta: you can get them at nordstrom

  • I figured out the trick for me using these was swaddling per the instructions on their site instead of the way we were taught in the childcare class:  https://www.adenandanais.com/en-us/content/learn%20and%20share%20how%20to%20swaddle.aspx

It's all about the big triangle :)  I use this with the aden (read, cheaper ones at BBB, BRU) blankets.

  • Dammit now I want the bigger ones!  I saw them at nordstrom but didn't realize the size was different, I thought it was just the prints.

  • We have 7 of them... 4 large, 3 smaller (bamboo muslin). We use them for daytime swaddling. I have found they work best if the top triangle is smaller than the bottom one. I think I saw this tip on their website.

@cnctf I also have 2 snap bibs that I love! Unfortunately DH put them in the wash with the super strong Velcro on the Halo swaddle sacks, so the material got a little shredded. FWP.

Instead of the a&a swaddlers, we got the Hudson baby ones on Amazon- they are 46x46. They were more affordable, and the same stretchy muslin. I haven't swaddled with them, but use them as a nursing covers, car seat covers, light blanket, etc.

  • @thegosiers - I have 2 of those bibs that are so adorable but they just aren't as absorbent as I'd like.  I always revert to the gerber cloth diaper rags even though they're boring white, although theyre just used for spitting up basically.  Maybe I just have a messy kid...

  • A&A blankets are the best :) they are so soft and lightweight. I also have an A&A sleep sack for DD and it's perfect for keeping her her warm at night but not overheated. I bought my swaddles and sleep sack gently used off eBay and got a great deal, paid about half of wit they go for new. I did get a brand new dream blanket for DD's baby shower and it's so amazing I want one for me!!

  • I think I have 6 A&A swaddle blankets and I love them though I have to admit, I'm not a big swaddler and I tend to use a thicker/firmer material one to swaddle when I do. I love the A&A ones as a second blanket (folded in half for double layer) on top of DD when she sleeps or if she has a feetie outfit on just under her and folded over top of her with the bottom long to keep her legs warm. Also, I have a bundle me on the carseat so I hate to put anything too heavy in there so I will just set an A&A blanket over her lap before I zip her and then when I get back inside places I roll down the bundle me and leave her just under the blanket so she doesn't overheat.

Also, I BF and I did not want to buy a nursing cover - I bought these clips to turn a blanket into a cover but the A&A ones are so soft and light I can just tie one around my neck and they are light enough to still get light in so I can see what's going on when I poke my head under. I love things that do double duty - A&A also has a bib that is also a burp cloth that I LOVE

  • I probably have about 8 between gifts and hand-me-downs, but unfortunately I haven't mastered the swaddle with these, and end up using the halo swaddle sleep sacks every single night. But I do love em for over the car seat, and general uses throughout the day!
  • Thanks for all of the feedback. I love the feel of these blankets so much and the fact that they are so light and breathable. I can for sure say these are my new favorite. I practiced a bit today trying to learn how to swaddle, I think I still will need a bit of practice but my LO had a fantastic sleep in it last night so I think I'm doing something right :)
  • Another question for all of you A&A users. Any tips on how to keep the swaddle tight? I'm assuming I just need to keep practicing but I feel like no matter how tight I get it when LO begins to fight against the swaddle he can easily loosen it with his hands as the material has so much give. He usually squirmed a bit when I put him in his swaddle me's but once he realized he wasn't going anywhere he stopped and was quickly soothed. With our Muslim blanket I feel like he is continuing to squirm around as he isn't as compressed inside. Just a question for all you pros. :) I'm going to keep at it and attempt to become more consistant with perfecting the perfect swaddle!

I never swAddled DD the triangle way like how the website shows. I did it last night and this morning, I found her arm out of it. Maybe since it was my 1st time doing it that way, I need more practice, but when I fold it rectangular she never got out.
