Toddlers: 24 Months+

Day Trip to NY

We are flying to NY tomorrow for the day.  I am trying to figure out what I should bring with us.

We have a small lightweight stroller but it doesn't corner well (not an umbrella stroller, it has a very small basket underneath- I can fit the backpack in it just barely, mostly sticking out).  Also my daughters head sticks out over the top of the backrest by about 5 inches, she doesn't seem to mind, but if she is sleeping it may be a bit uncomfortable.  Or should I go to the store and grab an umbrella stroller so it will be easier to push and just carry her backpack on my back?  Will she even fit in an umbrella stroller?  Or do I just bring her normal stroller?

Also, what do I do about cabs and a carseat?

In her backpack I have a change of clothes, a few snacks, small board book, coloring book and markers, hat, gloves, some wet wipes, balloons, and a few matchbox cars.  What else should I put in there?  Should I bring a blanket to cover her up if she decides to take a nap as we are walking around?  Heck, should I put her in snowpants?

Sorry if this is a little crazy, my neighbor just sprung this on us an hour ago and I'm scrambling to figure everything out.  I've never traveled on a plane to a place where I wouldn't have a car to keep a bunch of stuff.

Also, any suggestions on stuff to do with a toddler in NY?  The reason we are going is because our neighbor (flight attendant) got us signed up with buddy passes so after the initial fee we pretty much fly free and she decided that she wants to take my DD to the American Girl Doll store or FAO Swartz to get her a birthday present...yup, she spoils my daughter.
