Just want someone's advice...

FTM here and thinking of names. I live in an area where there is several close by small towns with great boy names!! (Logan, Hayden, Tyler, Bryson, etc). Is it acceptable to use one of them for a middle name because I just like it for a name or is that not okay?

Re: Just want someone's advice...

  • I don't see why not - I don't know if I would, but then again, I don't have any name-worthy towns nearby.

  • Why not? Those are legit names (though I'm not sure about Bryson). I wouldn't think anything of them being nearby towns.

  • Seems just fine to me! Go for it.
  • I would for a middle name.

  • I'm worried people will think it's odd maybe since we have lived where we do forever, however we don't live in the towns just 15 or 20 mins away from some of them. (hormones)!!
  • Those are all legit names, so go for it. Neither DD or DS have any "special" meaning to their names. We just chose what we liked.

  • Cooper and Jackson are both counties in Missouri near me, but I didn't know that until we chose his name. So, I say name your son what you want.

  • Thanks, I have been worried 'he' will think it's odd when he gets older having the middle name of a town next door to us. My husband thinks I am over thinking it! I really appreciate your honesty, it helps!
  • It's not a big deal, especially as a MN.   Unless there's something wrong with any of those towns, like one's claim to fame is being the area's waste dump or it's the butt of local jokes.  Then maybe go with one of the others.

  • I have the same name as the street my mom and I grew up on. It's not weird.
  • @jeanm14 - My mom named my brother Austin and they are about 2 towns from Austin, Tx. And my cousin named her son Dallas, and they live about 2 towns from Dallas, Tx. I don't think either get picked on, at all.

Now Toaster Oven? That's flame worthy for kids. For sure. ;)

  • Paisley is a town about 90 minutes from here and we are using it as our first name.
  • I say go for it if you like it :)

  • They are real boys names I wouldn't worry about it, I'd even call him one as a first name and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.
  • I don't see why not. They are all cute.

  • Your overthinking - name the kid what you want to name him!

  • Agreed with PP, they're all names, go for it if you want.

Although I live in Brooklyn and i could never name a kid that, but only because so many other people have done it and they don't live here and it just seems weird. Although I know another New Yorker who wants to name her future baby Hudson like the river and that sounds cool.

I think i'm rambling. :) long story short, go for it.

@lyracelesti Hudson was on our boy name list! I grew up in upstate NY so I loved it for that reason.

  • Ha! Ha! You must live in TX (so do I) bc I recognize those towns and love all of them for baby first or middle names.  The towns were probably named after people to begin with! If you are concerned about it, look up the towns and see where/who the names came from. The stories you find might also help you pick out the one you like best for the little guy. Have fun!
