Starting to freak out that I can't do this

Taking care of 2U2, that is. DD has been increasingly clingy this last week, she won't let me put her down and won't let DH comfort her, it has to be only me lately. She's gonna be 18m old when LO2 arrives. I think I'm just having a bad day (also didn't get much sleep) and now I'm totally freaking out that I won't be able to take care of both of them. Any BDTD moms with 2U2 wanna share some tips? I think I'm gonna talk to DH about the possibility of hiring someone part time for 2 months PP to help with cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping and entertaining DD. Right now I can barely keep up with the dishes and I only have 1 baby. Are you getting any help after delivery?

I'm in almost exactly the same boat as you, except that Benjamin will be closer to 2. Really hoping for BTDT wisdom.

My DD will be 2 and a half but I do worry a little. She will continue going to daycare actually so that I can kind of ease into the parenting two kids thing!

As for cooking and cleaning, honestly a lot of that falls to the wayside already so that's not the part I'm worried about!

Can your husband not help with that other stuff? MH already does the grocery shopping and a good chunk of the cooking and it's a huge help.

My son will be about 19 months when his sister is born. He is going to keep going to daycare which will help during the day, but the rough part will be the nights my husband works (he works 12 hour overnight shifts). I'm pretty nervous about getting my son to bed and ready for daycare in the mornings alone with a new baby.

I am a ftm so I don't have any mom advice but I worked for a lady in same situation and it really helped her. I did anything from household chores, grocery shopping, entertaining kiddos. It was nice to give her a break to take a shower or be able for each for us to take one child for one on one attention.
There are lots of moms who can give great advice. Good luck and you can do it!!

Dude, I'm with you. My sister has been very ill so I have her two kids here with me. My house looks like someone broke into it. They are lucky to be dressed, no one is happy at the same time and bedtime...fuck that.

I may not be cut out for more than one kid.

I don't think this is just you, or exclusive to having 2u2. I am having my own share of anxiety about having 3 kids this summer.....the boys (7 and 9) are use to doing all kinds of things like movies, bowling, etc. that we won't be able to do, especially if I am able to breastfeed.

Maybe we should form a "community"

We've been getting most of our groceries delivered, but I go to whole foods 1-2/week to get fresh meat and produce. DH and I split the real cleaning 50/50 and that rarely gets done anyways. I'm more worried about picking up after hurricane DD throughout the day. When it comes to cooking, however, DH is useless. He only cooks 2 things: frozen pizza and Kraft Mac n cheese. Last weekend I taught him how to make scrambled eggs, he didn't even know how to beat an egg! So cooking is all on me. Also because there is a lot of obesity in DH's family I'm trying to be really careful about what I feed DD and try to make home cooked meals for lunch and dinner, so it's a lot of work.

My DD just turned 2, but I'm freaking out, too. Especially on the days where we are in teething hell. But I'm also worried about how disrupting her routine is going to go. There are a few things I absolutely will not be able to keep up with at first. I'm hoping wearing the baby will help a bit.

I'm with you. There are some days that I can't even imagine how I'm going to handle 2.

( I'm sure that somehow it all manages to shake out into some sort of normal, but no clue how it will. If nothing else its nice to know that everyone else is nervous about this too!

@MK1013, this is me, too! DS will turn 4 the same month LO is due. I'm a little worried how he'll react to a baby taking up all of the attention he's used to getting all by himself. I'm glad he's a little older and more independent, but I'm still worried he'll feel neglected.

Yep. I'm freaking out too. I don't know how it's going to work, but I just keep telling myself that lots and lots of people have two kids and closer together than mine. It'll all work out after some adjustment time.

DS will be 30 months old when his baby sister is born, and call me delusional, but I'm not particularly worried. It's obviously doable, or everyone would stop at one child. And having an extra caretaker in my home or sending the older child to daycare just sounds more complicated to me.

I'm actually more concerned about DS feeling left out when the new baby gets here, and I know sending him away or having someone else take care of him in our home won't help that.

The only thing that I'm nervous about is outings involving both kids. I know that'll be tough. But surely still manageable.

2U2 scares me too. My son will be about 21 months, so closer to 2 when little miss arrives. He has been super clingy lately as well so I feel you on that one. He only wants me and wants me holding him all the time. I'm hoping it's teeth. I've resigned myself to the fact that our house is just going to be a disaster area for a while. If I can keep the clothes clean and the dishes from spilling from the sink, I'll call it a win.

DS and DD are 15 months apart. He got really clingy to me just before she was born but it was fine once she got here. There were a few rough days. He has hypotonia, a muscle disorder, and didn't walk until 18 months so having two I had to carry around if I went anywhere alone was rough but really other than that it wasn't as bad as I thought. The new baby kept him entertained more than I thought she would. He loved to talk and sing to her and managed to catch on to the be gentle part easily.

My first two are almost exactly two years apart and I honestly found it easier to have a newborn and a toddler vs. being pregnant with a toddler. It's hard to keep up! The two of them are eating me alive right now. Hang in there, it gets better!
