Uti question

I woke up this morning with the all too familiar UTI symptoms, burning, feeling like I have to go every 2 seconds. I've had them in the past and can usually tell. I am having burning/pain all the time very low in the front. I called the doc and I am waiting for the nurse to call back. In the past, I've taken AZO UTI pain relief. Anyone know if it's safe? It looks like it is a category B so I'm thinking it should be fine. Will the doctor just prescribe me something or will I have to go in for a sample?

Re: Uti question

  • I don't know what AZO is, but I think if you have a UTI that you need to be on antibiotics.  I apparently had one and didn't know and it turned into a kidney infection...which can get dangerous if left untreated.

  • I feel like AZO says it is not safe, but a lot of things say that which are on the safe list from your doctor. You can call your doctor's office while you're waiting and the receptionist could probably even find out if that's safe for you to take. You'll def need antibiotics, too, but I know the AZO helps tremendously with discomfort. I used to get them all the time wayyyy back when me and DH still used condoms. They suck, I hope you feel better!

  • My OB told me it was okay to take AZO, but you should check with yours. You'll probably need to go in so you can provide a sample. They'll need to know which antibiotic to prescribe you.
  • They just called back. I have to go give a sample for a urinalysis and culture. I can take AZO so let's hope that works quickly. She asked if I was having cramps because apparently a bad uti can trigger preterm labor. It's burning pretty bad down there so I don't even know if I could tell. I keep getting the urge to poop which has me worried but I had the same thing last time I had a uti.
  • Oh AZO is a life saver!

  • Glad you're headed to see your doc. I had a bladder infection without typical symptoms which can happen during pregnancy. Because of it I ended up in L&D twice with preterm contractions before they figured it out. Mine turned into a kidney infection as well, but that is not uncommon for me. However, if at any point after you see your doc you start to have pain in your mid back towards your side (a couple inches below your rib cage) make sure to let your doc know. They'll most likely prescribe you a different antibiotic. And you don't want to let it go, because while a bladder infection can cause preterm contractions, a bad kidney infection can actually cause you to go into labor. Hope you feel better soon. Azo is amazing, so glad you can take it. :)

  • I've had some UTI/bladder infection issues and I know it's definitely imperative to get it checked out as the infection could worsen and cause a variety of issues (compliments of dr.google).
However, I was almost positive I had a UTI last week so I contacted my dr office and dropped off a urine sample. Lo and behold, no infection! Turns out baby lurves my bladder and 3rd tri brings loads of urination.
Hope you get everything figured out!
