Maternity clothes for 3rd tri

Hi ladies.  I'm needing to get some warmer weather clothes soon while I still have the energy to shop.  For ladies farther along or with babies, what did you like for the last few months?  Did over the tummy panels ever get uncomfortable?  Is there a brand of shirt that was longer that lasted your whole pregnancy?  Did you prefer to wear dresses?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Maternity clothes for 3rd tri

  • I bought clothes as I needed them, mostly from thrift shops since new wardrobes every couple of weeks would be crazy expensive.  One thing I found was that most maternity clothes are not meant for multiple baby bumps.  I had way better luck trying on both maternity and regular clothes that were longer than normal (this is were thrift and vintage stores come in handy) and found pieces that fit all of me.

  • I wore alot of dresses because I couldn't find shirts long enough to completely cover my big belly! If I did find long enough shirts they were way too baggy up top in the shoulders. If I didn't wear dresses I was wearing skirts because I didn't like wearing maternity jeans because the band was always very noticable under my shirt when I was that big. I would suggest some cute dresses! So much more comfy when you are big and uncomfortable! Sorry I don't have any specific brands! I did like the maternity section from target though!

  • At the end, I mostly wore dresses and maxi skirts. My babies were born at the beginning of September. For shirts, I had a hard time keeping my belly covered. I never found anything that was long enough.

  • Leggings. I've been living in them for a few weeks now & they are just very comfy.
If it was warmer dresses would def be my go-to, but I'm in NY & it's been pretty cold, so leggings and Uggs (not the best fashion statement but I don't even care! It's all about being comfortable for me!)
  • I second the leggings, I have been living in mine w dresses or just a longer shirt w a nice long cardi

  • I wore maxi dresses, I bought cheap ones from marshals in large sizes. Also tank tops from old navy, they are very long and I would wear them alone or layer them under shirts that where riding up.

  • I'm in my 3rd tri and am sticking mainly to dresses.  I love the Old Navy and Target cotton dresses because they fit my shoulders while leaving plenty of room for my belly.  The tops that have lasted me the longest have adjustable drawstrings to help make room as I grow.  Tunic tops and leggings are also great.
    I miss my jeans!
  • Maxi dresses are the only thing I like now. Despite the cold I wear them all the time. I agree with others, buy as you need stuff. The outfits I bought in the beginning don't look right with my belly now and were a waste of money.

  • On a side note- I am terrified of my water breaking at work with just a maxi dress on!

  • I'm 31 weeks and haven't bought any maternity shirts yet.  I've found at Kohl's they always have super cheap shirts.  I went a couple weeks ago and bought 7 shirts for $45 and if I need to I wear a long tank underneath.  They're a little on the plain side (just stripes or solid color) but I dress them up with chunky necklaces and other accessories and they look cute.

Better than spending $30 on one shirt at motherhood maternity that's just a plain old V-neck.

I was able to wear full panel pants through the end. The demi panel eventually slid down too much when I got really big at the end. In my 3rd trimester I started needing to go up a size in maternity tops in order to get enough belly coverage otherwise I would have been hanging out the bottom of my tops.

  • I think it depends on the person.  With my DD, I didn't wear any maternity clothes, just Bella Bands. With these triplets, I do wear yoga pants almost daily and the Old Navy maternity shirts are really long.  Just stuck with XS, but got the maternity line...they are great and little $$.  Have lasted the entire time...28 weeks now...Drs think we may have up to 2 weeks but no more.

  • I'm tall to begin with and plus size so maternity clothing, especially for a multiples bump is a nightmare for me. I'm thinking I may need to get some leggings and dresses because I'm not sure how much longer the shirts I have will be long enough to fit over my bump, most of them are already riding up a bit to show the panel on the maternity pants. Then again, my back pain has been so bad lately that I don't really go anywhere haha, 11 more weeks! :-)

@littlelady77 this happened to me. My water broke at work wearing a dress. It wasn't pretty and I'm really glad I had a few blankets in the car to leak on on the way to the hospital. Haha.

But OP, I gave up pants in the beginning of third tri. Nothing was comfortable. Dresses all the way.

  • I'm 30+ weeks and was plus size (14/16) before getting pregnant. Right now I occasionally wear jeans. But for the most part it's maxi dresses and skirts and leggings and long tops. I had to go buy a bigger size of tops to make sure they're long enough...problem with that is they're too big in the bust, but I'm making do.
