hair washing issue!

My son loves the bath more than anything but when it comes to washing his hair he freaks as soon as he seems me getting the bucket ready. He starts screaming no no no and tries to move away from me. I have tried the risk bucket with the flexible ends to mold to his head, a shower baseball hat looking thing, covering his eye with a wash cloth and using the shower head to rinse his hair out. What else can I do? I feel awful that he screams but I gotta wash his hair.

    Sometimes DS2 will lay down in the water and let me rinse his hair that way.  Most of the time, I pour it over his head and get it done quickly even if he fusses.  I have to get the soap out, it's not an option otherwise.  He's just beginning to start tipping his head back (I'll warn him that I'm going to rinse his hair and say "put your head back!" and he'll do it a bit then when I pour, I put my hand over his forehead to kind of push the water back as I pour).  

    It may just be something you need to power through for awhile and he'll eventually get used to it.  DS1 used to hold a washcloth over his eyes and that was all it took to appease him.  Maybe just pick a way and be consistent and he'll get used to it.

    I let mine fill the bucket and pour some on her own head. We take turns and she's less upset that way.

    I also have her put her sunglasses on and we wash that way. She thinks it's hilarious.

    I also do it at the beginning of bath so she has playtime in the tub to look forward too.

    Somedays though TBH, I do what I have to do, go as fast as I can and just let her be mad.

    This.  If she starts fussing then I just go as fast as possible.  DD went through a streak where she freaked out every time and now she is doing better.  She will keep her head back and hold the washcloth over her face.  But for a few months she would do neither and just cry.  I only wash her hair 2- 3 times per week so I would just power through.

    I just dump the bucket over his head right at the beginning of bath. Get it done and then he can play. Sometimes it bothers him, but sometimes he doesn't even seem to notice that I'm doing it.

    is your shower head detachable? maybe you can use that and tell him to bathe in the 'rain' :)

    Sometimes I'll turn on the shower. She thinks its fun to run through and ends up rinsing herself.

    I throw the reclinable baby seat in the tub and wash their hair. With them reclined and my hand on their forehead the water doesn't get in their face. I do this for both DD#1 and DD#2

    For a while with DS, I would wet a washcloth and scrub his hair with it gently. You can get it soaking wet and then sort of squeeze it to gently release the water. It took me about 3 times to get it clean.

    He still never tips his head back, but we are living in a temporary situation and only have a shower, so it's pretty easy now. 

    It probably has to do with getting water over his face. I think going the opposite direction instead of forcing the issue might help.

    Also, have y'all considered doing swim lessons? DS started taking to a bath more after we started them... granted that was at like 6 months.

    PG#2 M/C 3/14 - Surprise BFP 2/13. Beta's doubled every 52 hours from 3w5d-5w5d
    Viable pregnancy scan at 5w5d; 2nd u/s showed 2 days of growth in 7 but a HB of 120
    3rd u/s on 3/10/14 had no HB and baby had only grown 7 days over 14
    D&C 3/17/14 - complications - DX Retroflexed uterus, multiple tears to cervix
