1500+ oz in deep freeze

Ok. My LO was hospitalized at 9 weeks old and I had to EP for about 6 weeks. I now have (including stash I had before that and the 12ish oz/week I freeze now) over 1500 oz. in the freezer. Since his hospitalization, I have been dairy/soy free as a precaution due to some digestive issues. They want me to continue dairy/soy free until he's at least a year old. He's 5 months now.
So, my question is, when should I make the determination that it's time to donate? I began pumping 1-2x/day when he was 4 weeks old to start a stash to go back to work. So, I have milk basically November-January that would potentially be "un-usable" by him at least until he turns 1 in October. I have room to store it, but I'm just wondering how much is too much to hang onto at this point. The vast majority of the milk is from early Dec. to mid-January when I was EPing.

Note: Before the question is asked, I had to EP during his hospitalization because he couldn't tolerate anything through his digestive system. He was on 100% IV nutrition.

Re: 1500+ oz in deep freeze

  • I had 2000oz when I stopped pumping when DD#1 was 12 months old in my deep freezer. The oldest was 8 month old.  I sent BM to daycare from that stash for 4 months and used it to wean at 16 months old.  I think 8 or 9 months is the longest I would keep frozen to feed my kids.
