Question: Period (AF) after Chemical Pregnancy

I'm looking for a little guidance if anyone can help. During the fleeting time that I was pregnant, I was bleeding pretty heavily. That has since stopped for the most part. My assumption has been that this was a cycle, and that I will now wait about my normal 29ish days for my next cycle/period to start.

A friend of mine mentioned that the bleeding I had was probably from the early miscarriage and that I will still have a normal period coming. Does anyone have any thoughts on this or experience?

I have to say I'm not thrilled about even more bleeding on top of what has already happened. I would kind of like a break. I was expecting my period to come this coming weekend if the pregnancy test had been negative. Just for reference today would be 14 dpiui for me and CD 27...if the bleeding I had over the weekend didn't count as a period.

My boobs are getting sore again, which is normal PMS for me. In my crazy, grasping at straws, thoughts, I was hoping maybe an embryo hadn't implanted yet and was able to after I lost the one over the weekend. If I am still going to have a period though, my body could just be gearing up for that.

I would appreciate any thoughts anyone might be able to share. As always, thank you all for your support. I can't tell you how much it means to me.

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

  • I'm not 100% sure, the two friends I know who had chemical pregnancies received one AF and their cycle continued (as in CD1). Are you temping/charting as well? Is your cycle usually approx. this length? I would ask your OB as well to be sure, especially since this is a special circumstance.

I hope everything falls into place soon - and I'm wishing all the best for the next try!!
  • I'm different because my c/p was after after a FET, and as soon as my beta dropped I stopped my progesterone and had one serious AF from hell. But that was it. Nothing until the next month/CD1.

  • @Jazibel - I have not been temping/charting. Right now I wish that I had been. If what I had ends up also counting for my period, then my cycle was about a week short. I started last Friday and I should not have started until this coming Saturday.

Everything I have read online (that looks like a reputable source) mentions that CD 1 should come on time or maybe late and the embryo would just be shed at that time. It seemed like it all was pointing to just having one time of bleeding and then progressing forward with ovulation and regular CD 1. That is what I'm going to hope for.

I know that all the meds are messing with the normal progression of my cycle, so there is that to factor in. My body is sensitive to a lot of different medications and I suppose fertility meds would be no different.

  • My doc. Recommends 2 bleeds before trying again. A lot of this is to make sure things get a "fresh" start. I know it's frustrating. After our loss the waiting to try again was the worst. Not to mention the day of our D & C as we pulled in, our new neighbors pulled in too bringing home their first child! Now...she's knocked up again and ready to pop.

Ugh sorry...just saying...I know how HORRIBLE this part is.
