So homesick

I haven't been to the States for over 8 months, and I'm SO homesick. Mostly I want to see my family, but I'm also craving BBQ (I'm Texan), blueberries, fast internet, Target, sanity on the roads, and....EVERYTHING.

I know we are very lucky to get to live abroad and travel so much, but sometimes I get in these funks where I get so down and homesick.

Is anyone else living far from "home?"

Luckily, we are going back for a 3 week visit later this month. Yippee!

Are you coming to Texas? I live 5 hours from home. It's not the same, but I miss my family. I hope you have a great trip home!

That must be so hard. I couldn't imagine! Just keep that 3 week trip in the back of your mind. I live 2 hours from my family and that's hard enough.

i lived in ghana for 3 months when i was younger - while i loved the experience it was SO different and many days i just didn't want to be there. so i can't even imagine you feel being gone for 8 months. hugs to you and keep that 3 week trip in your mind!

I'm so, so sorry you are feeling this way. While I don't have the international issues in play (I imagine there are dozens of things you miss about being in your home country!), I sometimes find myself missing TX. Between the m/c, all the treatment, travel restrictions in pregnancy, and the crazy infant stage, we haven't been back in 3.5 years! What I wouldn't give for some Sonic or Taco C! When I think that the boys haven't met a single aunt/uncle or any of their 12 cousins, I want to cry

Lots of hugs. It's hard to be away from family and I can't imagine how much more difficult things are as far as you are! I hope you have a fabulous trip home!!

I can't even imagine. I feel so sheltered some days. I grew up in VA and stayed in VA and all my family moved away. I haven't really traveled so I can't begin to imagine what i's like. How long will you be in Kenya and what is your next spot you guys are heading to?

I am from Australia and when things are good here I don't get homesick but once I have work/DH/other issues then I still get sphomesick. Recently all I have wanted to do is pack up and just go home but know the 15hr flight with me and LO is all to much. Hang in there, try to make some "home cooked" meals as that does the trick for me most of the time. Living away from home and family sucks but on the flip side living abroad has so much to offer.

mcgeeva, that remains to be seen. MH and I met while living in Haiti, then we moved to DC, then a few months after getting married, we moved to Kenya. He's in a Global Executive MBA program right now (while working), and is starting to get noticed by some European companies. At this point, I probably wouldn't move to another developing country right away, but I could definitely see us in a cool European city for awhile. It would be one of those things that we just couldn't pass up, KWIM?

Roxie5739, wow, you are even further from home than I am. I have several Aussie friends here, and they are all terribly homesick (and wonderful, BTW). Good suggestion on the food- on Saturday morning, I'm hosting a pancake breakfast for some American friends

No I get it. The opportunity to travel is seriously priceless. Just tough being away from everyone.
