Frozen Colostrum

Hi ladies. My daughter was born August 19th and I just realized I have about 10oz of frozen colostrum in the freezer from August 23/24. So it just hit the 6 month mark.

Should I toss it? I'm not sure if colostrum follows the same rules as BM, which I know is 6 months in the freezer.

    I'm not sure if the freezing guidelines for colostrum would be the same as breastmilk but freezing destroys the antibodies. I think it is still best for your LO to get it straight from the breast. However I'm not sure so maybe someone else has a better answer...

    Oh I know it's best straight from the breast :)

    She gets pumped bottles while I'm at work though so I have a freezer stash and noticed I had some colostrum in there as well.

    That's a lot of colostrum! We're you pumping a lot the first few days? I'm not sure of guidelines for frozen colostrum.

    She must mean 10 ml, right?  I pumped round the clock for the first two days of LO's life because she was in the NICU and the most I ever got at once from double pumping was 8-10 ml and if I got an ounce total in those two days, I would be shocked.  My milk came in at 36 hours, which I attributed to pumping right away, but I guess maybe you could get 10 ounces if it took much longer for your milk to come in.
    That's what I was thinking, maybe 10 ml? OP, if it's 10 ml of colostrum, I'd probably just do the sniff test just like with milk. Maybe hold onto it for her first illness, thought I am not sure how many of the benefits of colostrum survive freezing.
