AR formula and spitting up

Has anyone used Added Rice formula or have you added rice cereal to a bottle to help reduce spit up? DS spits up often and ped rec AR formula…I currently have both babies (7 weeks) on similac- i have no problem switching to the AR, but it is so much easier to keep them both on the same.  So i can continue with similar and add rice to ds which keeping dd without changing.  Anyway- how much rice cereal would you add? What if I add cereal to both? What are your thoughts?
TIA

Re: AR formula and spitting up

  • We use AR mixed with BM for one supplement bottle at night if we need it because C was/is spitting up and aspirating it into his lungs in the evenings. Just adding that little bit to my milk helped a lot. A hand full of times I have given him a 2 oz bottle when he goes threw his gaining lows and he didn't spit up any.

Could you put both babies on the AR? Adding rice to regular formula is a serious pain in the rear. I tried it once when my oldest self weaned around 8 months and was throwing up the formula and he had such a hard time sucking it out even on a fast flow nipple. You could try out a few methods and see what works but the AR does help us when we need it too on his refluxy days. hope that helps you some!

  • I tried it with DS who spit up all the time.  It didn't really help him.  His spit up just got thicker.  If you do try it, you will need to size up the bottle nipples or it will take forever for him to finish the bottle because the formula is so much thicker.
