Larger amount of BM vs longevity?

I tried a search but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully someone can help! I currently pump and supplement wth formula for my twins. I pump 6-8 times a day and average 30-35oz. While my system is working right now, I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to mentally/emotionally keep up the pumping schedule. While I know some BM is better than none, I'm curious which is better. More BM per day for a shorter amount of time (ex: 16oz for another month or two) or smaller amount per day for a longer duration (4-8 oz per day for many more months). When I just can't take so much pumping anymore, my thoughts are I would work my way down to pumping twice a day, morning and night, and be able to give them something rather than quitting all together. Anyone have any insight? Also, is it even possible to maintain some supply when pumping only morning and night? I wouldn't be too concerned with the amount at that point, only that they'd get something. TIA!

  • Actually, my pediatrician said the opposite. He would rather I give my twins two ounces of breastmilk per bottle vs stretching it out with only one ounce per bottle. He said the bulk of the mental and physical advantages of breastmilk occur in the first six months.

I pump three times a day for 30 mins each for my twins. I hate the pump but my next pumping goal is six months.
