Who is this kid?

DS has been nothing short of a nightmare lately. He is always screeching about something.all.the.time. Done with breakfast? Scream until you get me down from the chair. Don't want to get a diaper change? Scream and writhe the whole time you try to do it. Can't get the toy you want out of the toy box? Start screaming until someone helps you. He just is so ornery and impatient all the time now, and that's not like him at all! I don't know if it's teething, just a general phase, or what. But it's so draining. And he only wants me. No one else. He's cried every day at DC drop off, and the second you hand him off to DH he cries until I take him back or follows me around crying.  Can the STMs+ chime in? He's almost 14 months old. I also am torn because I don't want him to learn that every time he screams enough, someone will get/do what he wants.

Re: Who is this kid?

  • DS is doing something similar and it is so out of character! He gets easily frustrated and impatient and yells!! I just keep telling me it's a phase and he's developing his own thoughts and opinions but it's definitely off putting!

  • oh god I am going through the exact thing. I mean it is full on crying with tears. If I don't let him have something meltdown, done with food or not on tray fast enough...meltdown, can't hold him when he says up...meltdown. Put him by daddy.....meltdown because I am not staying in room. It is EXHAUSTING. I am a working mom so I have to unattach him to get something done when I get home lol I am hoping this phase goes by fast or blame it on teething as he went from 2 teeth to now getting 4 at once.

  • this makes me feel better because i feel like DS is ALWAYS whining lately. nothing seems to make him happy for more than 30 seconds, and he needs my constant attention (God forbid i try to do something selfish like prepare dinner or wash a plate!). and mealtime is a battle, he doesn't want to eat anything, and starts throwing a fit after just a few bites. i feel like i must be doing something wrong, because he seems so unhappy all. the. time.
(which is probably exaggerating; but that's how it feels!)

so basically, i have nothing constructive to contribute, but i am in the same boat.

YES! You are describing Mr. H right now and I cannot for the life of me figure it out. He is cutting molars. I know that. But he's overall just super angry. I talked to one of the teachers I work with the other day who said her kid basically started his Terrible Two tantrums when he turned one. I am so hoping that won't be DS...

  • I am sorry we're all in the same boat, but I am glad it's not just my kid! I am trying to channel the newborn/early days when I was begging for some kind of emotional reciprocation, to help keep his constant desire to be near me in perspective.

  • This is E too. But then add dd into the mix antagonizing him and my ears are bleeding.

  • Same here for the most part.  I think it has to do w/ them having more opinions but no way to communicate which would be frustrating.  But it is incredibly draining.  Now I know why some people teach baby sign language.  Which seemed silly to me before now.  Now it makes total sense.

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • We just had DD's one year check up, and one of the things the pediatrician mentioned is that she'll start to have tantrums. He said it's normal and helps with brain development, so just to respond like "hey, you're having a tantrum and that's ok, but that's not how to get what you want." And of course don't give in to what is wanted when they're throwing a tantrum. My DD is very clingy and only ever wants me too, so I totally understand the frustration and exhaustion that comes from that. Hope it lets up soon for you!

  • I'm losing my mind right now because Ellie has hit the screechy phase and at the same time Nate has hit the "Terrible-er Threes"
He is big into tantrum throwing all of the sudden. Everything is a crisis.

I think this winter isn't helping him either. Nate has always been a high energy kid and has needed to be outside from day one. He was a really fussy baby but would stop crying the second you took him outside. Winter is killer for us.

Remind me again why I live in Wisconsin?
