I didn't know polar bears were real until about 19 years old. I thought that they were something Coca-Cola made up for commercials.
I have a friend who didn't know sea horses were real until seeing them in an aquarium as an adult...she flipped out. She thought they were made up on Pinocchio.
I thought being a SAHM was super easy. Like not having a job at all. Your life continues just as before but now you bring your kid everywhere with you. No biggie. Ha! What an idiot.
I didn't know babies needed breastmilk or formula until they were 1. I thought you could just start giving them regular food at 6 months and forget the milk feedings.
I learned this when the nurse at the hospital asked me how long I planned to bf. I said 6 months. And she responded "you should really go for a year" and explained it to me.
But even if that didn't happen, I would have learned from A13.
Until I was 16 I didn't know sex required... Ermm "movement". I thought you just put the P in the V and stayed like that. I was so confused when I saw sex on tv and asked my friend why they were moving. So embarrassing.
Eta: I just want to say, in my defence, I lead a very sheltered life as a kid/teen.
I do things like this all the time. Seriously. And now that there's a thread about it? I can't think of even one.
Married DH : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat) DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18 FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!
I had to have a friend explain to me when I was pregnant that LO couldn't choke from eating (while in womb). Since everyone always said that your baby tastes whatever you ate, I thought that that was how she got her nutrients and why it was so important for me to eat healthy.
I know what hor d'oeuvres are, but never knew how it was spelt. In my teenage years I was reading a flyer and asked my mom what is was (saying it how it's spelt).. And she explained its an 'hor durve'
Remember the movie "Look Who's Talking"? In it Kirsty Alley is on the phone with her mom and her mom asked her how she got pregnant. She said something along the lines of "I don't know. I think it's from the popsicle I ate". Up until I was about 15 I really believed you could get pregnant from eating popsicles. That ended for me when I ate a popsicle, got a stomach ache, and told my mom I thought I was pregnant. When I explained why, she cleared that all up for me, after laughing hysterically for way too long. She ended the conversation by saying she didn't have to wonder if I was a virgin, because obviously I'm still innocent and naive to sex. ">
