How do you select profiles? This is SO hard!!! If you had to select donors what criteria did you use?

In selecting an egg donor, I was looking for someone who looked enough like me that it wouldn't be obvious at a glance that the child didn't have my genetics, someone who seemed highly intelligent, warm, and spirited, with a preference for a donor who would be open to future contact. At the end of the day it was a gut feeling decision. My donor actually doesn't look a great deal like me but we're both fair and have a similar body type (and I liked her physical appearance generally). What I loved was her accomplishments and her long, thoughtful answers to the questions in my agency's form. I was also quite happy that she was a bit older (late 20s) and had donated before so she knew exactly what she was getting into.

I expect with donor embryos the thought process would be similar, just encompassing two donors instead of one. I would probably also have a preference for embryos from an egg donor situation or ones that had been PGD'd (in the hope that the quality would be better). Good luck!! Are you selecting from your clinic or from an agency or through some other means?

We are selecting through a clinic in Florida who has their own embryo donation program. I'm pretty sure we just decided

We chose off of looks and personality. It just so happens that she's very smart and grad from college but needed up becoming a hairstylist for her artistic side... I too am a hairstylist and thought that was really cool!! We are both tall and have some same face features although she has olive skin and darker hair and I'm fair and blonde... But always wished I could get a good tan! Lol

We chose our donors based on a lot of different characteristics. They are similar ethnic backgrounds to us, similar physical characteristics (though our egg donor is much thinner and prettier than I am!) but they have different eye colors than we do. Our egg donor isn't very similar to me personality wise, but based on her profile I like her. Our sperm donor has some similar personality traits to my husband. When it came down to it, we wanted donors who looked somewhat like us, but more importantly we were drawn to them based on the info we had.

We chose our donor based on personality. We chose to use a known donor because we really wanted to know the background and genetics and personality that our future child might inherit.
