Fenugreek reviews?! How to boost supply?

I was going to order Fenugreek off of amazon because it's cheaper.

I have a really low supply of milk, I pump every two hours and only get a half ounce (if I'm lucky) out of one session.

Does anyone have any reviews on this, or have tried any other OTC remedies that have worked. I am seriously desperate at this point.

I don't want to give up breast feeding, but I am so discouraged right now with producing next to nothing.

Re: Fenugreek reviews?! How to boost supply?

  • I don't have experience with low supply, but I exclusively pump and feed my six week old. I pump every three hours and get 3 oz from the right and 2 to 2.5 oz from the left breast. I DO notice that the amount of water I drink drastically effects the amount I produce. If I do not drink enough water (at LEAST 60 oz a day), my supply drops to 2 oz from the right and 1 from the left at every session. So, for me, lack of water causes a 1-1.5 oz. drop in production from each breast. Are you drinking plenty of water?
I also eat a bowl of real oats every morning for breakfast. I'm not sure if that helps or not, but I don't want to stop!

  • I was in your boat too. I tried fenugreek for about a week without any results before I got a prescription for reglan from my dr. Reglan boosted my supply but made me feel so anxious and restless I thought I was getting PPD. I stopped the meds and stopped BF. I really wanted to exclusively BF but it just wasn't in the cards. I say at least try fenugreek, and maybe Reglan wouldn't make you feel crazy like it did me. But honestly giving up pumping constantly really relieved a lot of stress. Sometimes it's just not meant to be.
  • I've been taking fenugreek (2 capsules 2x daily). I definitely have a better supply this time than I did with my first child. Is it the fenugreek? Who knows. It could be a million factors. But something's working this time, so I'm still taking it.
  • I was producing nothing (less than 1/2 oz per pump session)and saw that oatmeal was something that might work. I got the most natural organic one I could from whole foods and only add water. It took 2 days to work and I now get 4 -5 oz per pump!
  • After lo lost weight, I started fenugreek and mothers milk tea (made by traditional medicinal, I got it at whole foods). It's definitely helped my supply, baby girl is gaining and weve been able to slowly back of formula supplementation. It doesn't work for everyone, but I've found it helpful. I take a lot though, 3 caps 3 times a day of the fenugreek and tea twice a day. GL!

  • I'm taking this as well, on top of Fenugreek. Plus using fennel oil topically 2x a day (diluted with carrier oil) plus lots of oatmeal. I still need to supplement (I'm EPing and he gets formula at night) but all of the above helped me get to a point where he gets 75% BM. I also just filled a scrip for Reglan in an attempt to boost my supply enough to get him BFing with a nipple shield, but that's a short term solution (my OB only gave me a week's worth) and it has a lot of side effects.

I suck at quoting, so I'm sure I'm stuck in the block, but I just wanted to let you know how much I admire you. I am having no trouble with supply, but am exhausted from being tethered to a pump all day while working and being a basically single mother while my husband travels. There are several days I want to just not pump that next time and just wish it would all dry up. I admire that you care for your LO so much that you go through all of this just for his health! Kudos!

This for me, too. GL :)

  • I'm sure you know, but just an FYI you will know your taking the right amount when your sweat and urine smell like maple syrup. ;) I took it with my dd but its caused her tummy upset so I stopped. But my supply was amazing
