CPW: How many hours...

edited March 2014 in July 2013 Moms
How many hours is your kid at DC? In my local moms FB group, one parent said that her daughter would be at DC for seven hours that day, which was just a really long day for her kid. It got me thinking about how many hours B is in DC and some changes I think H and I need to make. So, how many hours is your kid in DC a day

  • One day a week they are there only 5 hours and three days a week it's more like 9. They only go M-Th so I feel less guilty about the long days knowing they are home with me on Fridays and weekends.

Next year they will have two 5 hour days and two 9 hour days so it'll be even less.

  • 7:30-6, but only three days a week. Another interesting poll would be hours per week.

I almost made the poll that way.

B is there from 7-5:30 5 days a week. I have no sick days and only ten vacation days, and with my H starting a business I feel like we're not spending enough time with him. I think I need to make a job change. I'm just not sure what will give us more time with B out of DC.

  • I pick him up around 4:30. MH will drop him off anywhere from 8-9:30 depending on his schedule for the day.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • On Mondays she normally goes about 8:30 to 5. Tuesdays through Thursday about 7:45 to 5:45. Fridays probably 9 to 4.

  • I put 10+ hours but it's different because he stays at home with my mom and it's only 3 days a week. From July on, he will go to DC for that amount of time.

It's fairly normal to send your kids 10+ hours here, but not 5 days a week, most families do 3 or 4 days dc.

  • My LO is with the nanny for about 4.75 hours a day.
  • I picked SS because we use a sitter that comes to our house and it's only once or twice a week. However it's for 8+.

  • 7:15ish until 4:15ish every day. I was going to try to do a four day week with LO since I work from home but it was too hard with this job (kept DS1 home on Fridays with me until he was a year but I had a different job then).

    This from M-F.
  • In the day care I worked at kids were not allowed to be there for over ten hours. It wasn't am extremely enforced rule though.

I wouldn't worry too much about changing things if everyone is happy. Plenty of children are at day care each day for that long. As long as LO is being taken care of. Day care has amazing benefits.

Of course if you are not happy with it, then totally ignore what I said.

The daycare I worked at charged an hourly rate after 10 hours. So you would pay the daily rate then extra on top of that. The daycare was open 5:30am-6:00pm. There were kids there that long!

He doesn't nap at daycare. Even if he did, I would still want him to sleep 12 hours a night, but since he doesn't nap, he falls asleep on the ride home, and is only awake long enough to get a bath and pass out for the night. I wake him to get him ready in the morning. So, basically we don't see him while he's awake M-F. He is fine at DC and I know he knows us and loves us. But sometimes it doesn't seem worth it if we never actually get to see our kid.

  • If DH is home to do pick up and or drop off, he's usually there less than 6 hours. If I am "single mom" for the week he's usually there 9 to 9.5 hours, sometimes longer if I get held up at work.
  • 6:30am- 4:30 or 5 pm, but no more than 3 days a week that long. If they go a fourth day it's less than 5 hours that one.

Aw, I'm sorry that is rough. I hope you can make the changes so you get to spend more time with him through out the week.

  • Day care 8-9 hours total Monday through Friday. But by day care I mean my grandmas.
  • So, I nanny and bring LO. We are there from 8-5 most days but sometimes 6:30 to 5... Not the same as daycare but we aren't home during that time and the kids I watch don't see their parents during that time. Long days. (The kids I watch are 2year7 mo and 15mo, so still pretty little)

  • I said SS because they don't go to DC, but to my parents or ILs two to three times a week. We work nights so DC would be really hard to find. They go over night to my parents so they're there for 12+ hours, about 6 pm till 8 am, and sometimes longer if I sleep there before going home. If i work two nights in a row they will stay there for two nights and the day in between. The ILs about 5-6 hours, DH picks them up around 1030 pm.

  • Oh man.  This makes me sad.  We're definitely in the 10+ category, 5 days a week.
  • Well she doesnt go to a dc but shes usually at mils. And thats about 5 hrs a day 3 days a week and then 1 day a week its like 11 hours. But once summer comes she wont be going at all except one day here and there.

  • Maybe 7 hours is a long day for her kid to be at DC but I think it's normal or on the shorter end for kids who are in DC full time.  FWIW, my kids are there from 8:30-4:45ish.  DH does drop off and doesn't have to be at his office till 9.  I get off at 4:30 and do pick up.

DD will start daycare when I go back to work in September and will likely be there from 7:00am to 3:30pm M-F. DH and I are both teachers. He teaches 5 minutes away and will likely be the one to drop her off and I work a half hour away. I get out of school at 3:00 and he gets out at 3:15, so we can switch off who picks her up. I'll consider asking for either an early or a late schedule, so instead of 8:10-3:00 it would be 7:25-2:25 or 8:50-3:35, but I don't know if that's worth it. If you're looking for a career that would give you more awake time with LO, I do think teachers and other school staff do get more time with their kids, but I've known teachers who have gone into it for the summers off or the hours and they're miserable. Good luck and hope you can figure something out!
