Pregnant after a Loss

CPW: When did you/will you pick the name(s)?

I have noticed several ladies who have picked names early on in their pregnancies. At 17 weeks, we're just now starting to talk about names, but DH and I haven't even compared notes yet. So, I'm curious how that has worked for all of you.

Re: CPW: When did you/will you pick the name(s)?

  • We've talked about names since before my BFP but we didn't decide on one until 2nd tri. It just kind of happened when we were throwing out different combos that we hit on one boy name we both really liked. It could change but I doubt it will. If we had found out we were having a girl, we probably wouldn't have a name chosen just yet because there were a few we both liked.

  • We picked out names after we found out what were were having. We knew their names long before they were born.

  • With DS1, I have been set on the name Noah for years and years, since before I met DH. I was just fortunate that he also loved it when I suggested it. So when I found out I was pregnant with DS1, we decided then and there that if it was a boy, he'd be Noah.

With this LO (DS2), we started talking names around the time we started TTC again. We already had a girl name picked out from when we didn't know if DS1 was a boy, and then for a boy this time, I have really loved the name Lucas for a good while and I suggested that, and again DH agreed. I think I got lucky. :)

  • DH talked names once when we were going through fertility treatments - then he was silent until the 2nd tri. I have a first name for a girl that I have planned to use since I was little, and DH is fine with that, but we are disagreeing on the middle name. I don't know when I am going to win this argument.

And for those who think, no big deal it is just a middle name, DH's pick is on a list of names "your baby will never be cool enough for". His heart is in the right place, but she will be made fun of if he wins...so he won't win.

  • We didn't really talk names till the a/s either time - then we slowly work out way through lists and narrow it down to 1-2 that we like and decide at birth or close to birth. I could never be 100% on a name before the baby is born for some reason!

    A

    2010: son born 9/1

    2013: 2 miscarriages + d&cs, both at 10 weeks: April & July

    2014: son #2 born 6/29

2016: Baby girl stillborn at 21w6d 4/29 and baby boy stillborn at 20w 3d 11/16

  • This time around, we didn't start talking names until 16 weeks after our elective but didn't talk often about names until out a/s just out of sheer fear that something still might happen. We finally decided on Kelsey around 25 weeks when DD#1 kept saying it after we had told her a few of the names. With DD#1, we started talking names in the first tri.

  • We actually had a boy and girl name picked out for this one before I got pregnant. They were two of our favorite names from the list we used picking our DDs name. However, when I got pregnant I had prayed to God and asked Him to tell me what name to pick. Well, when I got pregnant I was in the process of studying the books of 1&2 Peter in the bible and I felt that it was a sign we were meant to name him Peter. I also knew right away that he was boy even going as far as buying boy clothes before we knew for sure. I know people think I'm insane but in my heart, I knew. And I knew his name would be Peter. Luckily my DH loved it too! Haha so that's what this little guys name will be!

So true! It's way easier to name a boy based on that criteria, though. Most of the people I truly don't like are women. :) I just have to eliminate ex-boyfriend names, and I'm golden.

We took a long time to decide on Lucas' name until finally I decided and just started calling him Lucas :) After he was born I had a dream about him and in it he told me I would have another son and his name would be Will. I can't turn down a sign like that! William is the boys name we have picked out and Veronica for a girl which we have had picked out FOREVER.
My nephews are Lucas and William/Will. Are you sure you're not my sister? :) Love those names, obviously.
