What to do with all my boy clothes? HELP!!

I saved everything from the boys in case #3 was a boy.  It's not.  DH and I have gone through everything and sorted it out into piles per size.  None of the stuff we kept was stained or ripped/torn.  The nursery is full of tubs of clothes.  I can't do anything to get her room ready and she'll be here 11 weeks from today.

We thought about having a garage sale, but it's too cold here to do it now.  Next month might work if the weather gets better, but that's getting really close to my surgery date.  I also have no where else in my house to put this stuff while we wait to have a garage sale.  DH tried taking a lot of stuff to OUAC, but they were a joke.

I have some friends that might be interested in the stuff, but getting people to come over and go through it is harder than I thought.  I belong to several local "for sale" pages on FB, but don't really have the energy or desire to try and post all this stuff on there or Craigslist.

I'd be happy to donate all of it, but I'm not sure where.  I know Goodwill is an option.  Is there somewhere else that I could try to look into donating that would really benefit children/parents in need of clothing that they wouldn't have to pay for?

I want to get the nursery together and the amount of clothes is seriously overwhelming.  :(

  • Purple Heart Donations. They will pick up the clothes from you.

  • Do you have a local women's shelter? I'm sure they would be able to take the clothes. Or what about a Catholic Children's Home type place? Church?
I found this https://www.juliancenter.org/Services/Thrift-Store.aspx  which is for domestic abuse victims and their children.  It looks like they have a "Thrift Store" that they let the women shop in for free.  I should see if they will take all of it!

  • Save some of it - things like jammies, it doesn't matter if they're boyish. And I love pairing DS's nice old polos or plain tees w/ skirts for DD. Or his old jeans w/ cute shirts - no one knows the difference. DD loves his tractor sweatshirt.

We did keep a lot of stuff like jeans, sleepers, blankets, towels, etc.  I don't care if she wears boys clothes either!!  We still have so much stuff left over.  It's ridiculous!!

  • You can always sell them to a consignment shop and the ones they don't want you can donate.

  • I know you said you don't want to post to all the sale sites but if you're not looking to make a lot of money, it's worth it.  Snap a picture of a lot (by size), give out a few general comments like brands it includes, pick a pretty low amount of money for the entire thing.

  • Do you have a refugee services program in your area? Those families arrive with nothing but the clothes on their back and very little in the way of resources for setting up their home- let alone buying clothing.
I found one in our area, but it says they are not accepting clothing donations at this time. :(

  • Wy did you think OUAC was a joke?

I know they only give you like 50 cents per piece, but the sell the stuff for maybe 2.00.  If you have a ton of stuff it adds up.

Donate it otherwise.  There are so many people that can use baby clothes.

It was mostly that they offered us $12 for like 3 bins of clothes, way less than 50 cents per item.  They also gave someone a whole laundry basket of clothes that still had tags on it that was ours.  At first they said they couldn't get it back and would give us a $10 gc and a new laundry basket.  They finally got it back but they were just very unpleasant to deal with.   I love shopping there too, so I was kind of disappointed.

I think I'd rather donate it to somewhere that provides for needy women and children at no cost to them.

  • A women's shelter or domestic violence shelter would probably be able to put them to good use. Our local Catholic Charities is always looking for donations of children's clothes in all sizes, too. Churches sometimes have food & clothing pantries that benefit homeless or disadvantaged families, too.

  • Our preschool has a supply of donated clothes for when the kids get too messy, have accidents, etc.
