We met with our RE yesterday afternoon, who I just love. We discussed our options and decided that IVF should be our next step. I am calling the nurse today to order my meds and find out how much insurance coverage I have left. I will start on my next cycle, with a Lupron protocol. After retrieval, he does PGS (Preimplantation Genetic Screening) and then freezes the embryos, then does an FET after we get the PGS results.

I am hopeful, terrified and anxious all at the same time! I think the only part I am really worried about is the retrieval because of the anesthetic. I have been under a light (twilight) anesthetic before and it didn't go well. Hopefully this time is different. And of course it is scary that this is our last chance for a biological sibling. I don't think we will do another fresh IVF, so fingers crossed for this one. It still feels so surreal to be at this point for baby #2. I would have never guessed. Thank you all for being here for me. It really means a lot to me to have this group

I completely hear you about being at this point for #2 - we've done this already, shouldn't #2 be easier?? I'm so happy that you have a plan though. I hope that this is what you need. Best of luck to you!!

FX so hard for you M. I really hope this works. It sounds like a good plan.
Talk to the anesthetist prior. They night be able to use something different, or provide supplemental meds to make it easier. I've done fine with anesthesia sometimes, and had a really difficult time others. So it can be different. As always, you will be in my prayers.

It sounds like your RE has some really great thoughts on how to maximize your chances. PGS on a first IVF seems like a really cool way to think out of the box. The nurse anesthetist had a long talk with me before each of my ERs and even adjusted my meds down a bit for the second one (I woke up tired and sobbing from the first and was 100% ready to jump up and run a lap after the second!). Hopefully they can do something for you! When do you start Lupron?

I echo what everyone else said- talk to the anisthesiologist beforehand. I had only been put under once pre ER and was also nervous because that one time I was SO SO SO nauseated. For ER they loaded me up with Zofran and I was good to go. HUGE difference. I did however cry when they couldn't find my husband - true story... THe only man I know who goes missing while there wife is in surgery --- although he was only in the hallway on the phone, still have to laugh!

Thanks for all the tips and well wishes! I will definitely inform the surgery center ahead of time about my past experience. It was my wisdom teeth last time, a long time ago. I got home and thirty minutes later I blacked out, freaked my Mom out, she called 911 because I didn't appear to be breathing well, rushed to the ER and spent 6 hours vomiting uncontrollably. However, we aren't positive it was all the anesthetic and not the Vicodin they gave me afterward. I have not taken a narcotic pain killer since because I am terrified. I only use Toradol for pain medication. I also had a LOT of nausea with my c-section.

I have had problems with sedation in the past, but found that the sedation team at the RE was very open to hearing what I had experienced and explained what they'd do to make it better. They said they like to be cautious because they don't want us to be sick and miserable when our bodies need to perform!! GL!

Good luck, hon!! I have problems with fentanyl (I got hives after knee surgery). I spoke to the CRNA in advance of my first ER. I'm glad you brought this up, however, as I have since changed clinics and need to make sure I mention it to the new RE!!
