I've read some people on this board (and some of the other BMB I lurk on) have problems getting their babies to take medicine, so I was curious: What is your experience with medicines and LO?

Loves medicine. Also-- loves her vitamin d. If she is fussing and I show her the vit. D bottle she is all smiles.

  • Ellie only gives me problems if she is already mad. Otherwise, she loves it.

  • @gigglejiggle normally I mind my own business but please don't give your LO aspirin. It can cause Rheyes disease. Reyes? I am not sure the spelling. @kelly422 can explain it better than I can.
  • SS - don't think I've given her any medicine. There is something the Pediatrician has given her that she doesn't seem to mind, but I haven't given her anything.

  • @kelly422 @gigglejiggle I feel like a jerk! Sorry for my ignorance! Just trying to help.
  • Ty wants all things in his belly...this morning he spit up and then just swallowed it! He has no issue with taking meds

  • It really depends.  With the 10 days of amoxicillin, he really liked the bubblegum flavor at first, and would get really excited about it.  About a week in though, he started fighting it.  I guess the novelty wore off?

My baby is weird.  He loves taking medicine.  I don't know if it tastes good to him or what.  He even liked the rotavirus oral vaccine.  Weirdo.

  • B loves it.  He gets a big smile when I bring the dropper of Ibuprofen out.  As a FTM, I might be doing this wrong, but I lay him on his back on the floor, stick the dropper in his mouth, and dispense the medicine.  He swallows it with no problem and we move on.  Not sure why he likes it so much.
  • When he was really little he loved his gas drops but now he hates medicine with a passion. He recently had a sinus infection and high fever and between Tylenol and antibiotics we were giving him meds every couple hours. DH would hold his head still and I would administer. Glad that's over!

  • OJ likes the Vitamin D, Tylenol, and Ibuprofen. The only thing that gets her really pissy are the stupid saline drops I have to put in her little nose occasionally.

  • Hates with a passion. She starts turning her head and spitting the moment she sees the syringe. Help me you guys! Tonight her fever was 103. DH is out of town so I had my brother bring me some children's Tylenol suppositories, and she did not appreciate me violating her in that way. Real tears and everything. :(

I felt bad for her but I would do it again. We're both crying by the time I give her medicine orally, and at least I know she got a full dose this way and her fever did go down.

I have to start her on another antibiotic tomorrow though. Where are the threads where people are talking about giving their babies meds? Or tell me any tips here! Thanks and wish me luck. It is seriously the worst thing ever and so traumatizing for both of us to medicate this kid.
