Newborn rash

I can't find the newborn thread, sorry. I looked at the page three times and seem to keep missing it. Darn mobile.

DD has a bit of a rash that they say is normal in newborns and isn't anything to fuss about. It's mostly in her face and chest and ranges from slightly pink dots to major red splotches depending on if she is warm or upset.

Her pedi and the nurses are unconcerned and say any rash for NBs is pretty normal but it's not something I'm familiar with and I want to make sure they're not blowing it off when they shouldn't (I'm paranoid).

Does anyone else's LO have a rash?

Re: Newborn rash

  • Yes!  DD had this for the first week or so and I also was concerned but all the Dr's and nurses said nothing to worry about.  Sure enough, her skin color has evened out now but just in time for baby acne to set in!

Yes, my daughter has some sort of rash on her chin and around her lips. I was also concerned about it, I was worried it could be an allergy to her formula or our dishsoap. Her ped yesterday was also not concerned and felt it was just caused from friction from rubbing her chin on her onesie and sucking her paci.

  • Yeah. Poor R is getting the acne now. All three of my girls got it, but it leaves soon.

Ours was followed by dry, flaky skin all over, and horrible cradle cap. Even in her eyebrow hair. Someday my poor baby will have pretty skin again, right?
(Sorry to threadjack, Rhonda -- baby skincare has been on my mind constantly lately.)

Yep. We had all that. I used vitamin E oil during the flakey stage. It's a good thing they're so cute ;)
  • Don't worry about hijacking!

I think she's adorable... But she looks rough in some photos. :-) and I wanted to make sure it was normal!

    Thanks all!

  • Aquaphor has been amazing on controlling the flakes, I put it on her face, hands, feet, and even in her hair.

Oh I've not tried that! I've also been told that Aquaphor on the little bum makes for less diaper rash and easier clean up. I must get some!
