Don't laugh...city mini GT vs Jeep Jogger

So as of right not I'm pretty sold on the city mini GT...I like the all terrain wheels and that it seems pretty compact. The Babies R Us by us doesn't have the JEEP brand in the store, but I stopped a lady pushing one last week and I was pretty impressed. The wheels seemed sturdy and rubber and the amount of space under the stroller was amazing for storage! I'm a newbie so I don't know if there is a reason Jeep is a cheap thing and not in the store or what the deal is. Any advise??

Re: Don't laugh...city mini GT vs Jeep Jogger

  • My brother-in-law and his wife have the Jeep stroller. It is very sturdy and they really like it now that their baby is 6 months old.
However, it couldn't lie flat and their baby looked hot and uncomfortable a lot of the time. Like he was frustrated because he couldn't stretch.
So I looked for a running pram that also has the option for a baby to lie completely flat, just because a lot of newborns seem to prefer that.
But it is a beautiful, strong pram and it's great to run with. Hope that helps!

  • Did you actually push it?? I know when we tried out a bunch of strollers, actually pushing it was the deal breaker. My sister has a baby trend and before I even had kids, I could tell it was cheaper. It just didn't push nicely. Maybe I'm a stroller snob but oh well! We are getting the city mini gt double and I love it! If you actually tried the jeep and like it, go for it. Maybe you can order it to try it out and send it back if you don't like it.

Our BRU didn't have very many options, but they did have the Jeep. I'm guessing the store stocks more of what they know they can sell.
  • I prefer the big wheels over the small wheels. That being said we have a wooded area that we go through pretty often and the larger front wheel stroller seems to maneuver through that better the the stroller with smaller wheels. Of the two you listed I would go with the jeep for that reason, but I haven't looked at the city mini because I knew it wouldn't work well for our needs.

  • I don't really know anything about the jeep stroller, but my BIL and SIL have the city mini GT and love it. The one thing they don't like about it is the basket underneath. It's not that the basket is small, just that you can't access it that easily since the seat is so low (esp if the baby is lying down). When I've used it I had to actually pick my nephew up a little with the seat just to get the diaper bag in and out. You don't really want to be moving a sleeping baby around if you need to get something out of the bottom. That is a huge frustration to me, but for some people might not be a big deal. It's great otherwise- the fold is amazing and it moves really well (though theirs is mostly used in the city, occasionally a park).

  • I guess I'm confused about the city mini GT...they advertise it as kind of a "jogging stroller", but I read elsewhere that you should not jog with it and the wheels aren't actually rubber, but like a rubber covered foam so people are saying for trails and gravel it wouldn't be good, which I'm feeling like that leaves me with the option of a BOB or Jeep basically. The Bob feels too large for me and I'm not a jogger, but we do have a lot of trails which is why I want a rubber wheeled stroller. I like how the GT was feeling like it would work well for both mall shopping and trail walking both. Anyone else use the city mini for trails and gravel surfaces??

  • I think the gt is an all terrain stroller. I think it has suspension. I've heard the forever air (foam) tires are nice because they don't need air and they don't pop. I don't run, and I probably never will, so the all terrain aspect is enough for me.

The worker at BRU told me specifically that the city mini gt was not supposed to be used for jogging. Actual air tires and a certain suspension are needed to qualify it as a jogger.

Then I read amazon reviews and many people are using it at a jogger.

It's going to be one of those things you just need to decide about. We are getting the gt and this is our first baby. I've also read you aren't supposed to run with any stroller until baby is 10 months. So depending on how sturdy my 10mo old is, we may or may not use it for light jogging.

I have a jeep and I really like it.  It is kind of big but I do like it.  In the market for a double now and it's going to be hard to drop that cash on a good one!
