MOTN

Guess I'll start...

Knew it was too good to be true. Went from a 6 hour stretch to 4ish, but still better than 2!
DH thought we were gonna have to say goodbye to our dog last night. She is still following us around, it's like she's hungry but not satisfied at all with the new food. Plus the antibiotic seems to be making her sleepy. He said before I finished feeding LO she just sat and whined at him. But as soon as I came down she snuggled up on me and then when I went to bed she ran upstairs with me. I think she just was mad age was tired and he wasn't going to bed.
Well, here's hoping for another 4 hour stretch!!

  • W.T.F.......ALL my kids are sleeping. Simultaneously! And DH is still at work so my bedroom is free of horrendous snoring. And yet...I am wide awake...damn you, insomnia.....grrrrr :(

  • I'm up . DD last ate around ten but ate slowly plus took a while to eat so didn't get to bed til 11:15. She woke up with gas and now is eating. I'm happy to be getting her off supplements but it seems to be wreaking havoc on her sleep patterns. I do use the SNS at her bedtime feed to give her a little extra for sleep reasons but guess that failed tonight.

  • @slmille4 I hope your dog is ok.

DS2 fought sleep for a looong time this evening and finally passed out at 9:45. Woke up at 1:40 to eat and is now passed out on my chest. Transferring him to RNP shortly.

Hoping everyone is getting some good sleep!
  • My kid has been sleeping all day. Wtf. She's only been awake long enough to eat and get changed. So, of course, I'm wide awake with a snoozing baby on my lap.

@jwp325, How are you breaking her SNS habit? Did you slowly wean her off, or just drop it all together? The LC wants me to try, but I feel nervous about it... What if she still isn't getting enough?? Also, she's pretty used to the "straw" now, as we call it, and I think she's going to be pretty ticked when I try and take it away.

She slept from 9:30-1:30 which is pretty good. We tried something new yesterday and gave her 4oz of bm in a bottle at 10 pm and she slept until 4:30! I was hoping for a repeat tonight but only got 4 hours which I'll take. But she is oly half-ass nursing as she is so tired, so not sure how long this next stretch will be. Although that beats the previous few nights where she was wide awake and wanting to party post MOTN feeding.

@thelittlepear, I started doing it slowly but with the urging of the LC, I just bit the bullet and cut it cold turkey except for before bed when she gets an ounce and a half. My weighted feeds were pretty consistent at two ounces so I knew she'd be eating more often. The first day she was eating every hour pretty much. Now it's about every two to two and half hours in am through early afternoon and every hour and a half to two hours in late afternoon and evening. I do weighted feeds every other week to monitor what she's getting/check her weight and I count diapers.

ETA: I just cut it this past Friday so it hasn't been too long. Treating the situation like a growth spurt. I also posted in the breastfeeding sticky and AmyG had good advice. Think it's on page 24 of the thread.

  • Up for the first time. 930-2. Not too shabby J! Now for 230-7...will it happen? Probably not. Can I hope for it? You bet!
  • It's been a tough 24 hours for sleep
In my house. Last night ds woke up at midnight with croup, and so I had to put dd in another room, and sleep with ds, who coughed and kept me up most of the night. Dh took ds to the dr. This morning, and since his cough has improved, but his cold symptoms worsened. Trying to keep him away from dd. Dd was up all day, just would nap for 10-20 increments. Finally around 8:30 tonight a huge, hard snot came out of her nose, and she promptly fell asleep, and just (kinda) woke up 5 hours later. Apparently, this was keeping her up! Usually, she sleeps terribly after our first MOTN feeding, so here's hoping for 5 more hours!!!

DD started early last night and fell asleep at 730. She slept until 1130 and then went back down until 230 (now). She has been such a good little sleeper! We usually get a few days of long stretches (6 or more hours) and then a night or two of shorter stretches. But seeing as she is only 5 weeks old ill take it!

  • L slept from 10 to almost 2 ish. I think this is his thing as it's looking like a pattern. Last week I had2 nights in a row of 6+ hours. Why can't that be the pattern? Also, he finally took some normish naps today. Score for being able to wash the dishes and vacuum.

We've had family visiting since February 21st and I'm hoping next week when it's back to just him and I during the day, that our days/nights are better.

  • @slmille4- Sorry about your dog... hope everything is okay!

We just got a 5 hour stretch which I'm shocked about because I think we're heading into the 6w growth spurt a little early. (DD is 5w2d today.) Yesterday afternoon from 2pm on was almost constant nursing and it was pretty rough so I fully expected to be up every 2 hours. Now hopefully we can get another long stretch after this!

  • Up for the first time. Longest stretch yet! 9-2:30. DH put him in the rnp, threw a nuk in and he was out! Now I'm hoping to get him to sleep another 4 or 5, but probably not.
  • It took us 3 hrs last night to put dd down. Dh and I took turns from 830 to 1130. She would fall asleep and we should put her down and she would last 10 minutes. I don't know what to do anymore. All she want to do is comfort suck during this time. She sucks at taking the paci. I knew she was tired because she fought sleep all day. Only took an hour and a half nap with a few short 15 minute ones. She even got a bath. Still fought it. She normally sleeps 2 to 4 hrs once she does sleep. Its just getting her there that is horrendous.

    Its a surprise! Team green!

  • Last fed at 845pm and finally got DS to fall asleep at 10pm. First got up at 215am, I will take that, better than last night. 4 hours of sleep but heard him fussing on the monitor at midnight, maybe it was a poop but he went back to sleep right away. Now if I can transfer him to crib without waking, if he does, hoping he falls asleep on his own, one thing we are working on.
  • Up again. Only made it for 1 hr...I think his reflux woke him :(
  • And I'm back. I'm digging the Halo sleep sack out of the clean laundry and trying that after this feeding. With her gas, she moves her legs so much that she's busting out the bottom of her swaddle and I think she wakes up more. She's sleepy slow eating right now not I'm really hungry so I'm goings to chow down.

  • @roses87
Our DS does the exact same thing your DD does. It seems like a fricken marathon trying to get LO to settle and fall asleep every fricken night. Sometimes it takes us 3 hours but most times over a hour. He fights sleep sooooo bad. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is dealing with this. DS is a little over 7 weeks, I would hope he would settle down better by the time I go back to work. I'm mobile right now, how old is your DD???
  • Abby needs to chat with your lo's about sleep. She went to sleep about 10:50 and woke up for her first feeding at 12:50. Ate both sides and had a diaper change. Went back to sleep between 1:30-2 and back up to eat at 3:50. She is on side two now and diaper is changed again. Of course, she only slept on me. I'm sure she is in her 6w growth spurt but 3 hours max is all she ever gets.

I spoke to her pediatrician today and didn't really get any help. He said to get her a probiotic and see if that helps. He also said to cut caffeine and dairy from my diet a few days and see if that helps. I'll try it a few days. My caffeine intake is pretty low however dairy is higher. Instant Oatmeal made with added milk, cheeses like my hot pockets or pasta meals I make for lunch and every few nights I have ice cream. But I'll give it a shot for a few days and see if it makes a difference. But I really don't think it is a food allergy. I'm wondering if she is sucky in too much air with the nipple shield.

Since the formula in the dr. Brown bottle worked so well last night, I wanted to try it tonight with breast but MH took over for me to sleep and Abby spent the two hours screaming that when he brought her to me, I just fed her right from the boob. He did feed her 3oz of formula in the dr. Brown bottle while he had her but she was already screaming.

Just feeling lost without answers. And all I do is repeat myself every night.

  • And we're up. I fell asleep on the sofa around 10 while dh was giving a bottle so I have no idea what time M went to sleep, but he let me sleep until 4. Now he's starting at me with big eyes, so we'll see when I can get him back down.

  • We're up for the 2nd time here. First time he went right to sleep after eating. Now he seems to be uncomfortable and won't stop fidgeting.

DH doesn't think we need to take DS to the doctor. He's fine when he's with us at home. Yea, he farts a lot. But last night, he was in a great mood; not fussy at all. So I'm going to talk to MIL when I drop him off and give her tips on what I do with DS during and after giving him a bottle. Hopefully that'll be all it takes to get these kinds of days under control.

SO & I were swapping out bottles because as soon as I turned on my pump DS woke up and wanted to eat. I was so engorged I had to pump for 45 min and now I can't sleep. I'm not letting SO know so he can take the last feeding. Mommy needs rest after last nights fiasco.

Oh and TV Land is running old commercials of IHOP's National Pancake Day and now I want a stack even though that was last night's dinner.

  • Up for the second time, Ds2 slept 2:20-5:10, which isn't too bad for his second stretch.

@allyerrn No, luckily DS2 doesn't wake up at the transfer. But only at night. During the day he always wakes up a few minutes later. He only wants to sleep on me during the day but I keep trying the swing, RNP, and crib.

@esd Funny you mention Addison's. My 10 year old black lab looked like had had given up on life. He had the vets baffled. A week of testing, 2 overnight stays at the vet for re hydration, and he was found to have Addison's. Now with treatment he's back to his old self!

  • Up again. I feel great after the first long stretch but crappy after the following short stretches.
  • @esd they did the test yesterday and we should find out today. They also did a direct culture from the bladder which was still pretty diluted. I'm trying to not get my hopes up its Addison's but the more research I do it seems like a real possibility, she's always had GI issues, but the vet still thinks it's the kidney disease but started us on antibiotics just in case it's a bad kidney infection.
@kssone I hope that's the case with our lab.

We're up for the day. Indie had yet another accident on our bed. But with how she was acting last night we didn't want to make her sleep on the floor. I foresee a nap in my future today.

Maybe try a different pacifier. We found DD loves the one we got from our LC and hates others. I couldn't find the one from the LC and offered her 2 others and she spit them and screamed. Found it, she took it immediately and fell right asleep. Needless to say, I found that Walmart carried them and got some spares. The ones she loves are the gumdrop ones. They have a straight nipple and don't cover the nose.

Good luck ladies with the rest of the night. I'm one of the disliked few who routinely get good stretches of sleep from LO. With being on the west coast and her sleeping I don't often get to stop by on here!
  • km_mdkm_md member
Poor girl didn't sleep well the rest of the night. Her reflux seems to be bad today. When we last saw her doctor she mentioned that we might need to increase the dose of her medication when this bottle is done (a few more days) because she was on a low dose and babies grow so quickly. I hope she feels better and has a good nap this morning.

  • Well, either it's an off night, or we're headed into growth spurt time... DD gave me what's becoming our usual 5 hour stretch to start, but then she was up every 2 hours after. She hasn't been up that often in the night since she was about 2 weeks old. Normally she goes for at least 3 hour chunks. And when she's woken up, she has been frantic for food. Wish me luck ladies!!!

Actually being at the studio is great. It was hard, though, because he was in bed after I got home. And then because he slept all night, I went from 4:15pm to 6:55am without holding him. That's over 12 hours, ugh. That's why I couldn't sleep past 4:30am, at least partly.
  • Poor DD hasn't pooped since motn Sat. She is uncomfortable and fussy. I've tried the thermometer trick , warm compress, and bicycling legs. Nothing. I messaged the pedi this am. Hope they respond soon. No sleep for us last night.
