Choking hazards.

I got really sad news today from my parents that a person I grew up with. I knew her but we were a few years apart.  SO i heard today from a friend who still lives in my hometown that last Wednesday, her 18 month old choked and died from not eating a goldfish cracker properly or something along those lines. Then I did some research and found that there are many stories of this happening.  I just googled Choking on goldfish  Just a little disturbed by this.

What foods are you careful in giving your little one.  I always cut hotdogs the long way then in to slices,  I am super careful on berries, grapes,

  • I'm glad you posted this, sad as it is. I was debating buying goldfish the other day, and I didn't know if they dissolved like regular crackers. Won't be buying them for a while.

So sad for the family, though.

  • OMG. That's so horrible. I'm so sorry!

Z eats goldfish but does one at a time. I'm going to have to watch her super close now. Ugh.

Nothing gummy or super chewy (caramel or candy). No popcorn. No nuts. I cut everything up.
  • I still cut up most things for my 2.5 year old. My 10 month old gets very mushy food or really small finger food. I'm paranoid about it.

I thought goldfish grahams did dissolve though.

I have never really worried about them for choking, however, DD1s dentist said to stay away from them because they cake on their teeth.. I stopped buying them.. However the ILs always have a steady supply.
