18 month appt and words

I know every child is different, and probably every pedi as well, but how many words did your pedi say LO should have at 18 months?  I'm just curious.

Mine threw the number 20 out there. Not sure if that is his standard or if it was his ball park guess because I said B was talking well.

The survey was crazy tho asking about 2 to 3 word combos (not common phrases). He said not to worry about those yet.

We haven't been to our 18 month appointment yet, but I looked at the ASQ.  It mentioned eight words OTHER than mommy and daddy, and also asked about two-word phrases ("daddy eat" or "mommy bye-bye").

My pediatrician asked if he was saying 4-6 words. Seemed low to me but our LO is saying >20 so I was happy with that.

My pedi said 5-10 words by now.

ETA: My pedi also said that there is usually a surge in words at 20 months.

Our appointment is tomorrow, so I haven't talked to the pedi yet. However as someone mentioned, the ASQ we filled out said 8 words in addition to mama and dada. It also asked about putting two words together which my son does not do.

This is more of what I figured.  Some of the stuff I was reading online had enormous numbers of words by 18 months!  I was just curious.  I was pretty sure that DS was on track.

I barely got a chance to talk to him or fill out paperwork, so I am not sure.  I want to say he asked for 10 words?  I didn't think too much of it.  She was going crazy during her appt and we didn't even get height/weight.  I do remember at my sons 18m appt he counted signs as words because they are communicated language.  That increased his "word" count greatly.
I didn't know signs counted! That's cool. DS doesn't sign a ton, but he has a few.

DS had his appt Monday. I said he had about 30 words when they asked, and the nurse was happy with that. They didn't say what range they were looking for. I think maybe they wanted 20 when DD was 18 months, but I am not sure. They were looking for 5 to 10 at the 15 month appointment.

DS has had a recent surge in words (he had maybe 10 a month ago), so if you think your LO is on the low side, their surge is probably coming soon!

We went yesterday and the form asked 15-20. She's really only saying about 10-15. Which is such a huge difference from DD1 who was singing full Taylor Swift songs at this age.

DS's pedi asked if DS was saying around 10 words, she then went on to say that she is more concerned with comprehension of words then actually speaking them.  Dr thought it was more important that 18 month olds can understand our commands, and what we are saying to them and follow through.

She has her appt. tomorrow, but the questionnaire didn't ask how many words. It did ask if they were using phrases. I wonder if "What Hell?" counts. She has been repeating that tonight thanks to my husband's "What the Hell?" during the hockey game.

I think at his 15 month appt that said they'd look for 5-10 at this appointment. Ours isn't until Monday, so I don't know for sure.

Haha, this made me laugh! We're going today for Evie's. I last counted her words at 30+ plus a month ago. She pretty much can repeat most simple words we say, which means I really REALLY need to watch my cursing. I swear a lot, and creatively. She can say "all done," and "watch Elmo," but I'm not sure if that counts as a phrase.

My DS is a big talker so he says a lot of words but that was just the number my pedi asked for. As with most things baby though, there's a big range of "normal" for words.
