On the fence

I guess this is a s/o of all the baby food questions we've had lately. I'm stuck on the fence of whether I want to do BLW or purees. I did order the BLW book yesterday and should have it by tomorrow (yay Amazon Prime) so I'm going to do my reading on that this weekend. I have also looked into purees just a little and if I go that route, I want to make my own. I know that they will be more work, but think they might be a little easier for us. I don't want to start with solids for probably another month (DS will be 5 months next Wednesday) so I still have a little bit of time. My biggest concern is daycare. I know I need to just sit down and talk with her I'm just having trouble finding the time.

So, what are you planning on doing, how does it work for your family and how did you decide?

Re: On the fence

  • I made some purees and plan to start with those.  DD will be 5 months this weekend so we have not started her on food yet...  she is showing a lot more interest in our food when we have dinner.  We will probably do a hybrid or purees and BLW.  If there is such a thing...

BTW - making the purees was extremely easy.  I filled the entire drawer of my freezer with about 2 horus of work.  Just get a bunch of pots going and your sweet potatoe/ squash in the oven all at the same time.  It's a piece of cake!

  • We will be making our own purees and I'm planning on waiting until she is 6 months to start.  Our pediatrician is on board with this and someone on another board posted a link to a great site with homemade recipes and tons of information.

LO goes to daycare, but I'm not sure if I'll send purees with her from the start.  We may just do them at home for a while until she gets the hang of it.  I'm planning on making larger batches and freezing them in ice cube trays, so when we do send them to daycare with her I'll just send a cube and then it will be thawed and ready for her.

  • I was thinking of doing BLW but I am personally to much of a worry wort.

Also, no one I know does it and my pediatrician suggested we do purée (ultimately our choice) but I feel like I don't have support from others to do BLW and as a FTM I like asking advice. I just decided purée is best for us. after giving her oatmeal a few times....it is messy as fuck...so there's that haha

  • I looked into the BLW, but I'll probably just do purees. It fits better with my life sinceI rarely cook for just myself.

  • We have kind of done both. Our ped said we could start solids at 4 months. We have just given him a few things here and there. His favorite thing so far was a raw mushroom, but he also liked his purées that we tried. He took about five small bites and then lost interest, but he wasn't spitting it out all over or anything.

  • Thank you ladies! I'm excited to get the book this week... hopefully DH and I can make a decision!
