A mom from my multiples group posted this on facebook today regarding her Evenflo Symphony carseat. I know this carseat has been mentioned on here so I thought I'd share! Scary.
On approximately December 13, 2013 when putting Charlee in her car seat and then tightened the harness straps the buckle strap at the crotch completely detached from the O ring that is inside the car seat. We removed the car seat from the car and removed the car seat cover pad and foam inserts to see what happened and upon closer inspection of the harness straps we found that the straps on both sides that run inside the car seat had significant fraying. We bought this top of the line car seat in June 2012. This car seat is only a year and half old.
On about December 15, 2013 I contacted Ashly Bryant ParentLink Representative with Evenfo Co. about the Symphony car seat model #34511125 made in 01/11/2012 that had damage to the harness straps. We sent in the multiple pictures requested by Evenflo so their engineer team could inspect the damaged harness straps.
Their response was as followed: Evenflo: "After reviewing the pictures we have found it consistent with damage caused by an animal chewing and/or clawing on the strap. The plastic and metal components in contact the strap have smooth and rounded edges and would not cause this type of fraying/tearing of the strap."
To our family this response is not satisfactory and this is why: 1. There are no rodent/animals in our car. 2. There is no damage, chewing and/or claw marks, on the harness straps anywhere or to any other part of the car seat. If it were an animal or rodent there would be claw marks or chew marks on other parts of the seat, seat cover/pad or foam inserts. It would be impossible for an animal to damage only the straps that are inside the plastic shell/seat without damaging any other part of the seat. 3. There is no damage to any contents in our vehicle or to the leather seat of our car that an animal would have to have caused to get under the car seat in order to only damage the straps. 4. This car seat has never been in any type of storage where an animal/rodent could have gotten to the car seat. 5. This is the same reason Evenflo gave to another mom with the same problem ( I copied her complaint from an online blog) there are several complaints online of other moms having this same problem with harness straps fraying on other Evenflo car seats and the Symphony car seat. Evenflo has a serious problem with several of their seats. Eventually a child is going to be seriously hurt in a accident when the straps unknown to the mom are seriously frayed. There is a flaw in the design of the seat or strap material that is causing the straps to fray. www.evenflo.com or 1-800-233-5921. Also, you should file a complaint with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) 1-800-638-2772. Please pass this along to anyone you know!
