Epidural? Clicky

So who plans on having an epidural. I had one with DS and it was great!! I got it at 5cm and he was born 4 hours later into a peaceful, painless environment. Bring on the drugs for me!! What are you ladies thinking? Epidural?

  • I hated my epidural. I'm going for med free this time.

  • All natural! I have had two epidurals both did not work :(

I'm going to try, and prep as much as possible in advance with stuff like hypnobirthing... But when it comes down to it if I feel like I need drugs, I will have all the drugs. Eta:'if I am induced in any way, I will have all the drugs.

  • I have a bad back, and I feared any long-term pain from an epidural more than the short term pain of childbirth so I went epiduralless last time and probably will do so again this time ( and part of me is sick and wanted to know how bad it really was - it hurts. A lot.)

But that is no way a judgement on those who choose to have one. I think my husband wishes I would :)
  • My epi wore off by the time I needed to push, so ouch! But I didn't feel a damn thing when in transition I suddenly dilated from 4cm to 9.5cm in 30 minutes and DS flipped over....so please give me my epi!!!
  • No epi with ds1. Epi with ds2. Will get epi with this one too.

  • The first two were natural and pretty fast, so I'm just assuming I will not have time for an epidural and preparing for a third natural... anything can happen though and I don't have my heart set on either way (and also curious about what it would be like with an epidural!).
  • I am woman, hear me roar-or not. I'll take some drugs please.
  • I did have an epi with my first 2 and was induced, but this is our last and I am doing it completely different an all natural home birth :) I'm pretty excited.

  • I'm a SS... I had an epidural with DD#1 which turned into a c-section. If I had it to do over I would have at least attempted going without it (I asked for it as soon as I hit a 4 without many contractions)

  • I went in with an open mind with DS1 and only managed to have a drug-free birth due to my amazing L&D nurse. I've had DS2 and DD without an epi and will plan to go the same route. I will say, having DD and LO#4 so close does NOT help with the pain amnesia. :| I'm only 10 months removed from her birth and remember WAY too much.

  • I know I'll be getting an epidural again.
When I received the epi after intense contractions every minute with DS, I felt lovely.

    My thoughts exactly!

I'm going to try naturally and if the pain gets unbearable I'll go with the epidural.  I had it the first time and I really liked it.  I also had some kind of calming drugs before the epidural and those were amazing.  I have to figure out what that was because I definitely want those again.

  • The epidural with my son only took to my right side and I felt EVERYTHING on my left, especially in my back, just to end up c-section! If I decide to try VBAC I will definitely get the epidural and hope  it works!

  • My mom did it without and I was almost 9 pounds. A woman's body is equipped for natural labor in most cases. I want to feel in control of my own body and not worry about any possible side effects for me or baby.

  • There were some things about the epidural that I didn't like with DD, but having no more pain far outweighs them all. I have a low pain tolerance and I was pretty much screaming during contractions while I was waiting for the liter of IV fluids to infuse before they'd give me the epi. Drug-free labor is not something that appeals to me. At all.

Although I have a feeling I will need a c section. We make big babies in my family, I was almost 11 lbs at birth myself...

Don't let that scare you I was 9 pounds and DH was 12!!! Our kids have all been in the 7 pound range!!!

  • I had two med free labors and deliveries but I will be the first to say as far as labors go, mine were relatively easy. Slow and steady, contractions that built up instead of coming on strong right out of the gate, one terrible hour or so of transition and pretty quick pushing. All the stars aligned and I was very fortunate. I hope to be so lucky again this time.

  • I went all natural with my first two and will do the same with this one. It was an amazing experience. Painful, but amazing!
  • I'm pretty set on an epidural.

For women who can do it without- awesome! But it just wouldn't be for me. Especially if I'm in labor for an extremely long time.

  • Epidural didn't work for me! They had to give me a bolice(sp?) 3 or 4 times, and I was just in so much pain. After 76 hours of labor, it ended in an emergency c-section.

  • I ended up getting an epidural as they had to do an amnioinfusion which they told me would be quite painful.  I didn't take much convincing as I was in so much pain while in labor!

I really didn't like the effects of my epidural, and I ended up being numb past my belly button and couldn't even move my legs which made pushing quite frustrating.

I will try to go natural with this birth as well, but if I feel the need for an epidural I will get one.

DH and I were both C section babies and I thought I would need one with DS I was almost 10 pounds at birth but DS was just over 7 pounds. My Dr. said that your weight at birth is not a prediction of how big your baby will be. I did not have a c section. I will be getting the epi again. It was wonderful.

  • No epi for me as long as I can get in that LOVELY tub with the jets again! I had hung out at 4 cm for almost 6 hours (the entire time I had been in the hospital), and after that last check I was just so discouraged I started asking for the drugs. My incredible husband knew me well enough to suggest we try a few more things. My nurse had originally said they try to hold people off on the tub until they are closer to transition, but talked me down and said I could have it if the tub didn't work. OH. MY. GOLLY. GEE. I was able to relax so much I went from 4-9.5 in 30 minutes in there! I came out and the nurse said "Don't push, the doctor isn't here yet."
