Sound Machines article

Came across this article this morning: Popular Infant Sound Machines May Be Hazardous To Babies' Hearing, Study Says

I have to say, my first thought when skimming this article on my phone was, who is putting the sound machine volume all the way up? Mine seems pretty loud at at about half way. Though it does make you wonder why it would even be a possibility to get it super loud. I remember when I was looking for one on Amazon, a bunch of reviewers were complaining that theirs didn't get loud enough.

  • We have been putting ours in the crib. I hope we didn't damage his ears. We never turn it up super loud, but still, it has been very close to the baby. :(

Ours is in our crib too because it's a clip on.  I'm going to have to go home and see what it is on and turn it lower.  I think everything I had read before this said to turn it pretty loud...so guess I'll go reevaluate it.

Seems weird that anyone would suggest to have it loud

  • Ours is a clip on, too. I have also heard to turn it up, but I never did. I was surprised at how loud that little thing could be.

  • Ours is turned very low. Always has been. I don't know why you would have it turned up high. Would you sleep with music blasting in your ears??

I'm not sure if ours works. Dd still starts stirring every time we toss or fart. I'm tired of trying to fart quietly in the motn...lol.

OMG lol. Was it you that had to hide in the bathroom to 'let one rip'? I die.

@ElleStaxx ::raises hand:: I am the bathroom hider. It is a sad existence when you feel like a prisoner in your own room and can't even fart in bed.
This is why DS is in his own room now. :)

  • I'm just commenting on this post for two reasons:

    1. Bc our son also stirs when we fart...sigh...

    2. I just scored this sound machine at Goodwill for $6!!! Which I'll clearly turn to low

    Box fan ftw.

DD1 has decided the best spot to sleep in her room is in the floor next to it. Lol. We have a small fan next to DD2's bassinet but will use a box fan in her room when we transition her.

I love using a box fan because they are not only soothing but block out household noise. They are especially nice during naps in case someone rings the doorbell.

Idk if they are affect hearing, but I don't foresee us ever not using them. I would need a pretty strong case against them to convince me.
