Well alrighty then! (Nipple shield victory!)

We're one of the remaining that have continued to rely on the nipple shield 100% while nursing. Albeit an inconvenience to have to use it, I hadn't noticed any effect on my supply so I never pushed weaning. Well the last few days I've been offering bare nipple toward the end of the feeding and to my surprise she's been taking it! She just woke up for her motn feeding and I got her in place on the boppy and was reaching to get the NS and all of a sudden she just grabbed my boob and went to town! So proud of her!

Any other NS users experience a weaning like this? We're going to continue working on it and hopefully be done with it soon!

  • This was exactly how we weaned. I was gonna side lie to nurse her. I bent over to grab the NS and she latched! After that the weaning process was super fast and easy.

  • It's such a relief knowing she can feed without it. I've always had to make sure I had it with us at all times for fear she wouldn't dare eat without it (which was the case a few months ago).

  • Yup that's exactly how we weened off it too. I remember being super excited as well. Congratulations!
  • We still use it 100% of the time. I have offered without & it's hit or miss if he'll accept. Congrats, OP!!

  • We experienced the same thing a couple days ago. However we weren't as successful, :-q
Oh well! Congrats OP! Maybe one day we can join the club, until then we are in the NS club.
  • Yep! One day he was just screaming at the boob latching and unlatching so I took the shield off. He then latched on like a champ and we never looked back. He's done this with tons of things. He knows exactly what he wants/needs. When he was in the NICU he pulled out the CPAP, oxygen tubing, and feeding tubes continuously until the nurses finally just realized he didn't need them anymore and was ready for the next step in his recovery. He's going to be an awesome toddler :/

  • That's how it went for DD1. I just kept offering at random times. Sometimes she'd take it, most of the time she wouldn't. Her latch was awful still so I didn't push it. Then, one day randomly she latched on herself (I guess she was hangry) and I didn't want to throw her across the room from her latch and she seemed satisfied. After that we used it only a few more times.

  • That's awesome!

I had to keep offering over and over. Bait and switch. We had to go back and forth until we nixed it completely. It's so much easier with out it.
