Refuses to hold bottle...

edited March 2014 in May 2013 Moms
Hola!
So DD is doing really well as far as milestones go. She crawls, stands up, pushes her Sit to Stand Walker and even stands up without holding on to anything but she absolutely refuses to hold her own bottle lol. She loves holding her straw sippy cup but not the bottle. I'm not worried at all but more so just wanted to know if anyone else's LO was doing this??

Eta - oh yeah she feeds herself too sooooo lol.

Re: Refuses to hold bottle...

  • Us too. Literally this kid can now play fetch with the dog and hold a toy and keep standing but bottles he will not hold. He just sits there with his mouth open like a little bird. When he is done eating he will hold it though and he can tip up his sippy cup without a problem. I think it's just him wanting to be my baby for a few minutes. Bottle time is calm and quiet cuddling and I think he loves that. The rest of the time he's going a million miles an hour.
  • Loading the player...
  • J won't hold his either... unless he's truely desperate for food and I'm not fast enough.
  • LO used to but now she finds other things to hold/grab. Like my lips or shirt.

  • Ok glad it's not just mine lol.

I'm gonna go with @emmy236 reason...she just wants to be a baby during that time. Our DD is also going a mile a minute every other time. We can't keep up and she's not even walking yet smh

  • My LO will hold her sippy but not her bottle which is weird. Who knows

  • L refuses to. She drinks out of a sippy like a pro, crawls, plays, has a great pincher grip, and all of that stuff, but she wont hold a bottle. She sees me warming it up and crawls as fast as she can to me, then tries to climb my legs. But hold it? Nope.

I want to get her off the bottle completely at 12 months, so I don't care about it. I love the sweet snuggle time, too.

  • None of my kids has ever held his own bottle. I actually think that made it easier when it was time to wean the first two off the bottle, so I'm okay with it :)

  • Nah, if I let him hold it he drives it like a steering wheel while in his mouth.

  • Same here but I partially blame the bottles. We use dr. Browns wide neck bottles and to be honest they are quite large. It's gotta be hard getting those little tiny hands to hold up a bottle about half as big as him. It's ok. He's flying through lots of other milestones. Like others, I enjoying feeding him. :)
