Tilted/Retroverted Uterus

Hello everyone, I have been lurking on here for a while & love reading everyone's discussions. I am currently 16w1d pregnant & ftm. I found out at my 8w U/S that I had a retroverted uterus. Who else has a tilted/retroverted uterus? Do you notice any back pain/sciatic pain? I was told my uterus would move forward and up around 12-14w however I haven't noticed a change yet. I have had sciatic pain since about 8w , especially while at work (I work as a nurse). If anyone else is having the same sciatic pain I'd love to hear from you, especially if you've noticed a decrease at a certain amount of weeks along. Thanks!

Re: Tilted/Retroverted Uterus

  • Congrats and welcome! I'll be 15 weeks Wednesday! I was never told of having a tilted uterus myself. However I work in healthcare as well and I have had sciatic pain since 10 ish weeks. Maybe earlier. It's not all the time just after I've done a lot of walking. It may get better once your uterus moves but to my knowledge I thought sciatic pain only increased throughout pregnancy because of added pressure. So I think we are in for the long haul on that one. Where do you feel pain? Mine is low back and middle butt mostly. I make my BF rub my booty lol no shame

  • I have a retroflexed uterus and sciatica...My sciatic pain lasted my whole pregnancy with DS #2 but I got a lot of relief from accupuncture and  massage.

  • Congratulations! I feel you as far as the pain. Definitely have back and sciatic pain and this past week at 15 weeks, I swear my tailbone started hurting. I've heard I'll be dealing with it throughout the pregnancy, but plan on getting massages for relief.
  • I have a retroflexed uterus and only had a brief run in with sciatica in my first pregnancy. I could barely walk from about 23 weeks to 26 weeks or so, my left leg would just give out under me at times. This time around I'm having lower back issues, but I think that's more related to the fact that I'm way out of shape as a musician (not so much time to practice with a toddler around), so when I do have a gig and I'm playing for 3 hours at a go, I'm a mess.

  • I have a tipped uterus, it's never caused me sciatica pain, but I do know it takes until about 16 weeks for the weight of the baby counteracts all the other effects of it.  Here's hoping your pain reduces at that point.
  • I was told before I got pregnant that I have a retroverted uterus. I had a lot of back pain the week we found out we were pregnant, otherwise not so much. Good luck :)
  • Mine is retroverted, I've been fortunate enough in prior pregnancies that I didn't have any extra issues while pregnant.... BUT

OMG Back labor!  I had back labor with both kids and it's rough.  I found that the most comfortable way for me to labor (like nearly pain free vs. wanting to cry) was to be squatting down on the floor, crouched over the bed.  That sort of forward leaning, hunched position made back labor much much much easier.

The nurses hated it because they can't keep the monitors on you the whole time when you're in that position.  I opted to just be monitored for 20 min an hour, then they'd take them off so I could be comfortable again.  It was more work on their part, but I really didn't give a flying rats ass, I was in active labor and didn't care if they were bent about having to work harder lol

  • Thanks everyone for the replies. I went & saw a myotherapist today & she said the best thing is heat packs, epsom salt baths & to begin gentle swimming again. I'll give these a go so If the pain persists once baby has moved upwards ill still get some relief. Fingers crossed!
