Any tips, etc? Cashing in my V-day present from DH today! I'm excited but not sure what to expect. I read online to avoid pressure on parts of the ankle and wrists...who else has gotten one? How did it go?
As a massage therapist, my advice, and what others have said, have someone trained in prenatal massage.
For comforts sake, check and see if they have the tables with the whole for the belly. If not make sure that they have the equipment such as duffles to put under your knees and to be able to elevate you when laying on your back. If they don't have these things they will have to do the massage with you in a side lying posistion which I find is not the most ideal position for giving or receiving a great massage.
Don't forget to use the bathroom before you get on the table so you won't have to worry about interupting your relaxation in the middle of the session.
Yes there are contraindications such as no deep pressure on the achilles tendon pressure point, which could cause you to have contractions.
Lastly, and something I find many therapist forget to tell you is, you are going to want to drink plenty of water the rest of day (add an extra bottle or two to what you already drink) to help your body push out the toxins that the massage has started to do for you. The water will also help keep your muscles from getting sore the next day.
It was great kinda dizzy and nauseous now though...normal? I also laid on this pillow thing but on my tummy. Hope I didn't squish LO
I definitely was very dizzy and very nauseous for the rest of the day after mine... And even for the next day. I just upped the water intake and felt better after a while!
Make sure you get a masseuse trained in prenatal massage and it'll be fine. I find it kind of lacking, but that's because I like the deep tissue stuff
This. Mine was just okay. Next time I will go to my regular massage lady (who is certified in prenatal anyway) and just ask for a Swedish massage and not to be so gentle on me.
Awesome gift! Hubs scheduled us for a 2 hour couples massage for V-day. It was perfect timing too!! My girl was trained in prenatal which was comforting. We went to massage envy. They have you lay on your side which I thought would be uncomfortable but it actually wasn't. Thinking about it now makes me want to go back!!
I've had 3 so far, they are amazing! As long as the person is a registered massage therapist and has the right equipment you will be fine. If they do not have the right equipment, then u need to find a different place.

I need one so bad!! As long as you go to a trained massage therapist for pre-natal then you are fine. They will make sure to stay away from certain pressure points in your feet and ankles that can send you into labor. However, if you are late delivering you will be begging for them to hit those pressure points.
Re: Prenatal massage
I had one today it was amazing hope you enjoy yours!!
